One of the best in Decatur recently closed up shop. Had been there for 40+ years I believe. I can't imagine a true bait & tackle mom & pop competing with on-line sales and the box stores. Try Shelton's in Moulton you wont be disappointed. Does Sheltons sell minners, worms and crickets? I Nope, unless they've added them recently, though I highly doubt it. Neat, neat store though. Great folks & cust svc there too. I knew they didn't that's why I asked. I wish they did. I don't know anybody around Decatur that sells minners any more.

What locals we got up here in marshall arent goin anywhere soon, most are owned by fishermen and fishermen need people who know what they are talkin about to comprehend the customers needs. I grew up in south sauty and my next door neighbor and his wife ran the store and cafe. Dwight fished everday and was one of the best around... If you walked in there an said "hey, i need a pack of zoom 4in junebug deadringers an a pack of #3 offset gamokotsus"....hed be like..."yeh back yunder on the far wall right above the interstate batteries". Store is closed now only because knowbody wants to fool with it..not cause they cant make money..and other reasons. There is several more. Around that i know i can count on...i judge them all by what kinda jigheads they got for crappie...if they got a #4 1/32...now thats a classy joint..we can be freinds...all the places i frequent have them. Ohh yeh they gottah have minners..an not just any minner..shiners..none of that tuffy crap.

I grew up in this business. Online sites and walmarks have made it almost impossible to survive selling rods, reels and tackle because the big guys can sell for what you can buy it for and there isn’t lot of profit to be made on a $10 sale anyway.
If I wanted to get into it I would find me a good location near the water and try to keep my shelves stocked with what is currently hot, or things an angler may run out of, but there is more money to be made from a convenience store, with a kitchen, and fuel, than tackle. You will starve to death trying to make living off of live bait. Like said above, cater to the morning and afternoon bull chiters as they are good for business. This business is also better suited for someone who plans on running it themselves with little to no help to keep overhead low.

They used to send out a catalog years ago too. Early 90's. Wew, do you have a link? How do you find a particular store? I tried search option, that didn't work.
