Had one start hammering at 0600, set up about 150 yards from him, he wouldn't budge. Slipped to abot 100 yards from him, yelped he gobbled the another one started up. 1st one SHUT UP. Well 2nd one came in to about 65 yards and that's was close as he got. After staying there about 10 minutes he went from my right to left up on a ridge, bred a hen. Then about he bred about 3 more that had flown in around him. About 0800 he left with them across the land line going away in that clear cut.
if i hadnt taken up hunting i might have became a juvenile delinquent or worst taken up GOLF

Killed one that's been running with two other gobblers and one hen in the same creek bottom since the beginning of youth season here in Georgia. Guessing close to 20lbs , 10" beard and 1" spurs. The strutter stayed out of range for the 3rd time this season that I've called them into the same spot but the one I killed walked straight to me when I yelped to them.

Dr. B Dr. B I can't help but notice that you have had a rough go in the spring turkey woods for the last 3 years or so. Are your properties really that bad? I do believe you a limited to the area you can hunt? If I were in your shoes I would be looking elsewhere before I would endure 3 years of torture. I sure hate you are having to go through these type hunts nearly every time you go to the woods.

I do believe you a limited to the area you can hunt? If I were in your shoes I would be looking elsewhere before I would endure 3 years of torture. I sure hate you are having to go through these type hunts nearly every time you go to the woods. Ha! Well it's frustrating for sure. I'll go in and look at my mounts on the wall, I'll look at those dried, curled up feet and spurs out in the storage room, dig out some of beards that haven't dry rotted, look at some pics of me with birds when I had more hair and didn't need reading glasses, and keep telling myself that YES, I can kill one! I had 25 years of being able to hustle, pay, barter and do whatever to have some pretty special places to hunt. And you can bet I made the most of those opportunities. I've left my mark in Nebraska, Texas, and South Dakota so I've had some awesome times with these birds. But, nowadays, as you well know, trying to find a piece of ground that has a huntable population that isn't pressured to death is rare. That's kind of what I've run into the last few years. I've picked up some new ground this year and I'm learning it as I go. Hopefully, it will all come together eventually! Dr. B

Congratulations to the fortunate ones. The rest, I feel your pain. Called one in this morning that put on a show. Gobbled inside of 50 yards but behind a bunch of saplings and Japanese Climbing Fern. Listened to him drum for about 10 minutes behind that crap. He finally stepped out in the road, took one look at the AvianX decoy and hauled azz.
Don't usually use a decoy but knew this morning's setup would likely be in open woods so I figured it might help. Wrong again...
"Cull" is just another four letter word...
