On most of my hunting rifles, I want a set it and forget it kind of scope. Nowadays, everyone has been mislead to believe you can't kill a deer past 100 yards without spinning turrets on a Tacticool scope with a 34mm main tube, 56mm objective, illuminated mil reticle, etc. Set at 30 X magnifcation. I don't want a big, bulky, fugly Hubble scope on a treestand gun. Glass quality and the ability to stay zeroed, not spinning turrets, are most important for this type hunting, IMHO. With the current market trends, its more difficult to find a quality hunting scope these days.
Maybe leupold quality has slipped, but you can say that about a great many products today. I don't necessarily disagree with any of that, but even if you aren't spinning turrets a scope should adjust accurately. IMHO in that aspect the higher end Bushnell,Weaver, and Sightron stuff will do much better than Leupold. There was a time when Leupold was top notch stuff. I just think they have been resting on their name and letting quality slip over the years.

For what it's worth, I have sent back 2 of the cheapest vortex scopes made at the time ( they were the original Crossfire models... The Crossfire II is much better ), 2 Leupold Vari-X 3's, 1 Millet DMS and 1 Bushnell 4200 Elite. All required repair or replacement.
I have never been a Leupold fan, due to more of a lack of features that are available at the same price point from other makers. All Leupolds I have ever messed with were set and never touched again unless it was to re-sight after mounting on another gun. The two I sent back, per Leupold required the erector system to be rebuilt. The Millett and Bushy did as well. The two Vortex models couldn't be fixed and were replaced. The Millett was actually replaced too...I guess it was more cost effective than rebuilding it

If you own and love all of those cheap scopes, why did you borrow someone's NF so you can shoot 250 yards?
It's funny if someone has a Leupold that they haven't had any problems with, you have to still throw off on it by saying that it works "ok." I don't know why folks that have Leupolds that work bothers you so bad. I already apologized to you over there for hurting your feelings, but I guess you still ain't over it. I was offered a Nightforce to try out and I took up the offer, simple as that. I wanted to see how well the illumination does in hunting conditions. Those inexpensive (not cheap) scopes don't have illumination. I am very happy that you like your Leupold. I'll still say that I haven't yet seen one that will accurately track more than a handful of times. Apparently you don't care if yours will track or not,and I don't care, but just because it works for you without tracking properly doesn't mean that it works properly. And that's all I'm going to say about it because it really doesn't amount to a hill of beans, other than something to argue over or get your feelings hurt over. For someone who doesn't care if someone has a Leupold that they like or works for them, you always seem show up to bash them. This thread is a good case in point. The OP just bought a scope and was wanting some firsthand experience with them. You just couldn't wait to bash them. Awesome. OP, I hope you like your new scope and it serves you well.
