I cant even guess how long its been since me and the wife have been to a movie or even out to eat together. All of her family is 3hrs south and all of my family works full time. We have nobody. We have to hire one of the boys teachers if we need to do our Christmas shopping or to get things done without kids in the way.

haleyville al,
No she is not. A babysitter around here runs 12-15 and hour. I mean I can hire one for less but I prefer having someone that won't smoke meth while watching my kids. Those you can pay 15.00 a day. Neighbor sounds like the type that will agree then pay what he wants at the end of the night. I had those types when I was mowing grass as a kid.

That’s more than reasonable. If the neighbors don’t like it tell them to find someone else.

I have a nanny for my 7 month old that gets $11 an hour. She also washed all the clothes, dishes, and makes beds. If we ask she has dinner ready when we get home. She’s my wife’s aunt and she loves our baby like her own.

I thought that was what grandparents were for. At least that is what my son told The Boss and I.

Yep, mine has two sets.

Often thought of starting a bidding war for the right to babysit

She's not out of line. We head up a church small group and arrange sitters for the kids every week. Usually 12 or so kids but there have been times when attendance has been high and it was double that many. At any rate, our standard is $15 per sitter per hour.
