I assume the answer is it's not worth it, but am I right? Got a plot that usually gets browsed too hard for soybeans (not terrible results, but not great either). Thought about trying something different there, but my guess is coons or something would wipe everything out?

It will grow and produce but unless you plant really late in the year it'll be gone before bow season

I don't know what your deer density is, but corn will probably fare better than beans, because deer don't like corn until it's "done", meaning they won't browse the stalks like they do soybeans.I'd certainly plant an acre of corn, and have done so before with good results.

Corn plant doesn’t get browsed like beans. Should be fine planting an acre

Sunn hemp is the only thing I ever planted that the deer did not wipe out in a week. Going to try Tecomate horn maker.

10#s of sun hemp and bag of iron clay peas and 2 hand full of sunflowers per acre. Spray generic prowl (it's the only pre tested that works with sun hemp to my knowledge) and watch it grow. The key is plant as early as you can depending on soil temp this will help with early browsing pressure. I mix 10 pounds or so of Laredo soybeans with my mix but they will get destroyed in a 1 acre plot so don't waste that money. This is my smaller field or bad soil mix but it may become a bigger part as I tweak my mix. I don't not fertilize this mix but I normally plant it in a existing plot that have residual P&K.

Do deer just not hammer sunn hemp the way they do beans, does it just grow faster than they can eat it, or is this planted in a low deer density area.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

It's growth rate far exceeds browse pressure. 3-6" growth per 5 days is typical.

I mowed some and did T&M and plowed some and planted to see how they did compared to each other. T&M was not as pretty as the plowed but it did very well and it will definitely become they way I do most of my fields from now on.

Corn will work fine in that size field. I have planted several that size and had good luck.

I grew sun hemp 12-14 foot tall and the peas grew up them and pulled them down. I made tons of forage per acre at a low cost and that's the goal.

Did you just spread through the tall stuff and then mow?

The reason I ask is I'm going to be doing sunn hemp and peas on a new property and was looking at maybe doing throw and mow this fall.

I mowed first spread and used a specialized drag I made for sandy soil that just levels the trash and caught a rain.
