Howdy guys,

I am going to pick up some TSS rounds for the upcoming season, either Apex or Federal.

I will be shooting them out of a Mossberg 835, hunting on public land where it is usually pretty thick with limited shot opportunities. I have killed three birds so far with this gun shooting 3.5" heavy shot magnum blends of 5,6, &, 7's.

Looking at the Apex selections I see 7.5, 8, and 9's offered. Federal appears to only have 7 & 9's.

I know that TSS lets me go down in size quite a bit but would I be making a mistake going with 9's? Would you guys be picking the Apex loads or the Federal loads?

Thanks a ton!

I would stick with 7.5 or 8s in a 12ga 3.5". Your shot count will be more than sufficient and carry more energy when shooting in thick stuff. 9s will also kill one further than you should be shooting a shotgun so either way you are good.

I’m shooting 9’s. I hunt public. Haven’t had any trouble with em. It is TSS. So brush isn’t a problem. I shoot 3” in a 12. With 3.5” you’ll clear a trail and kill the turkey

Apex has a 7.5 x 9 blend that is throwing some awesome looking patterns

Either 8s or 9s with a factory full to modified choke. A 12ga 3.5 with tss is over kill BTW.
