Has anyone done these? Even though I have a ton (literally) of salvaged granite, Mrs. Irish and I have decided that it's just not going to look right in the cabin, and we are going to DIY our own concrete counter tops. After much research into the subject it looks like we basically have 2 options: 1. Build reverse forms out of melamine, caulk the seams and pour the concrete with reinforcing mesh, let cure, flip it out, sand polish and then seal and wax. 2. Screw on hardieboard down to the tops of the cabinets, screw on the plastic bullnose forms, pour the concrete with reinforcing mesh, screed, wait, trowel with a magnesium trowel, wait, trowel with a steel trowel, let cure and then sand, polish, seal and wax. I'm leaning towards the second option, because I think in the end it will be less work and I will have counter tops with no seams. I figure if this chick and do it I can: https://www.addicted2decorating.com/diy-pour-in-place-concrete-countertops-part-1.htmlHers turned out looking pretty good. This place has the plastic snap off forms that I'm planning on using: https://www.concretecountertopsolutions.com/product/half-bullnoseMy questions are these for those who have done it: 1. Do I use crushed stone int he mix? I've seen it done with stone and with just sand. 2. Do I make the mix thick or soupy? I'm leaning more towards just sand in the mix and no stone and making the mix about the consistency of pancake batter so it flows better. Then using a palm sander (without paper) to vibrate all the air bubbles out of it. Here's a picture kind of what I have in mind:

I would say no rocks... I am no expert but if I put any rocks in it they would be very small and not many of them...

I did all my countertops for my outdoor kitchen and all my steps on 3 doors to the house. Quick Crete makes a counter top mix in a blue bag and its high. $25-$30. My garage was the only slick finish I had. We sprayed a release agent (Form oil) all over the garage floor and the forms(2x4's). They do sell form liners which can be used multiple times to give you a raw edge look. I did these and just tacked them up on the inside of the forms with a few finish nails. I would suggest a small electric concrete mixer, buy one and resale it or rent one. Nothing is added to the counter top mix however we did use chicken wire in mine and it worked great. It mixes up very wet, like pour it out of a 5 gallon bucket wet. Let them set up a week before you wreck the forms. Once cured they will still try to stick to the slab on the finish side. I used all kinds of pry bars on a couple, and laying a 2x4 flat as a beater block and a sledge works pretty well. I warn you they can crack one of mine did. I would not try to do 1 solid pour around the sink. I did and mine cracked on that narrow front edge. After all this -concrete stain however you like and seal it. If all this is too much My buddy owns a concrete business and custom builds these. I sure he would do it for you. PM me and I will sen you my # if I can help

do it do it do it! After we flipped them we did wet sand them, He started with around 160 grit and went up to like a 240 and said he even goes higher grit than that. I will try to take a couple pics of mine when I get home. For real, if your worried We can build them in his shop and you can pick them up in Moulton when He's finished. They need to cure a minimum of 2-3 weeks depending on temps.

A saw saw without a blade also works good in the corners.

I helped do my friends kitchen counter tops in his house about 8 years ago. Still works fine. He has a little gap between the sink and concrete. I just dont like that. Looks just like in your picture. Im thinking food and water gets inside there and causes germs ans smells. Thats the only thing i dont like about them. His has a little bigger gap. And what if you have to change your sink?? Our friends are giving us this old porcelain farmhouse sink. It drops in.

Keep in mind that you will have water splashing up on those rocks and with all of the crevices/etc, you are going to have mold growth in your kitchen over your clean dishes.
We're probably going with Subway tile. The rock would be hard to clean.

Someone on here built a outdoor nest for his BGE, with a concrete countertop. During the pour, he dusted with cement coloring and darn, if it didn't look just like a granite countertop. Really impressive. I seem to remember that too.

The concrete countertops that I've seen installed were all poured somewhere else and then installed the same way granite countertops are. I'm sure its expensive but they do look nice
