Wow, this thread has grown legs. Some of the dog hunter defenders are talking about how ethical and careful they are, sure weren’t very sympathetic when I first posted. I will tell you I’m committed to seeing all of Alabama go to a permit system. If dog hunters are being so courteous and careful, I’m sure they would support a permit system. That way we can weed out these few bad apples. I say we all get on board for a state wide permit system. 3 strikes and your out. How could anyone be against this

Skid I do feel bad for ya. Hell I hate your having to go through all that. But I got Mr puppy subsidy calling me a liberal, this other jackass talking about Bruce Lee, Batman and super human strength while calling me childish. What's next maybe 49'r can drop by and tell me I copy and paste too much. But to answer your question before I dip out of this thread. I'd be good with permit system. I'm pretty sure my club is on it now.

I’m a dog hunter. I can’t stand to still hunt more that a few times a year. I have deer dogs, Fox/cat dogs, squirrel dogs and just got rid of rabbit dogs. I love it. If it can be chased by a dog then I down for it. I said all that so you’d know for sure I love dog hunting. With that being said, your neighbors are pieces of shit. They don’t care. With today’s collar technology there is no reason for a dog to cross a line, road or creek. I can keep mine on 5 acres if I want to. We hunt Florida and Alabama public land and some private in Florida. We have zero problems with dogs getting out of pocket. I know where my dogs are within 10 feet anytime. They know what a truck horn, coaches whistle and tone button mean. We run walkers and they run to catch but will turn almost inside out stopped when you holler at one. A lot of the redneck dog hunters say I ain’t shocking my dog off a deer. If the idiots would start training in their yard then they wouldn’t have too. I
Got a 100 foot string I put all my dogs on out in my pasture. I teach them from jump what a tone/shock is and I can stop them whenever I want. Then they learn it’s time to come in and the deer have nothing to do with it. They don’t associate deer and tone/shock. They associate it with quiting time. That is all. Folks like your neighbors are making it ruff on folks like I hunt with.

Skidboot, I'm a nonresident hunter in the fine state and really love hunting here. I know there has to be some really great people who hunt with dogs. I just never had the opportunity to meet any of them. With that said, I don't think or want them to lose their way of hunting. They have just as much right to run their dogs on THEIR property as I have to hang a stand on mine. Even as a nonresident hunter I really don't think any type of hunting needs more regulations to force people to do right. It should be up to all the great dog hunters to weed out the bad ones. Most hunters whether dog or stalk will try to get the bad guys out of the area. It may be poachers, trespasser or dog hunters intentionally turning hounds out on others property. We all want those types gone. Don't do away with dog hunting, do away with bad dog hunters. There are a lot of night hunters and poachers in our area but I don't want our stalk hunting rights taken away because these people are doing it wrong. We call the GW and try to get rid of them.

Lol, either will work. The trick is you have to be ruthless in culling the ones that won't hunt. If a pup didn't leave the truck to go hunt on its first day, Dad pulled the collar off and it didn't make it home.

aint no sense in wasting time or dog food. We usually give 2 - 3 tries though.

What do you guys do with the cull puppies?

We tanned the hides of the colorful ones and gave the others to Hop Sing at the China King restaurant

Everybody in our party has a handheld unit. A lot of us even have a dash mount 7in screen in the truck. At least where we hunt somebody is always close to the dogs. We also don’t have more than a few dogs out at a time most of the time. With the collars you don’t need 15 head barking to keep up with them. Just look at the damn screen. Plus with fewer out at a time there’s less chance of a bunch of dogs splitting off on other deer and have races going every which way. We all drink beer. But it’s at night. We all belong to still hunt clubs. We all drive newer full size trucks. We have business owners, professional guys, firefighters, corrections officers, state employees, county employees. We ain’t a bunch of trash throwing, gun shooting rednecks. We are the good neighbors. You call to need a dog, we’re there. Just about all of us own tractors and will help if needed.

I thought Hop Sing only took cats?

I had a cousin that caught a huge feral cat in a trap once and decided to skin it and send it to the fur buyer along with his other furs. When he got his check, it just had a note that said "no market for wild house cat."

Not sure what this story has to do with dogs, but it just seemed to fit the thread.

Is it a felony to drown a puppy?

Hey Palehorse. I’m calling tears4deers on you.

And I thought that Mongolian Beef tasted funny the other day.

No sir, we're not.
But on the bright side, every puppy that goodman_hunter drowns is one less deer dog I will have to kill eventually.

Don't blame me, I was on the supply side of the equation like PCP's cousin. There obviously was a demand. 257, I'm going to quote Peter Griffin circa 2015, "Chinese, Japanese, Dirty Knees, Look at these" Ask her if she has a family recipe. Dilly Dilly
