I have been in the same club for 13 years. I started to get out last year, but got talked into staying. My issue is the continuing issues with a neighboring dog club. We know them and have had a decent relationship, but it’s had it’s ups and downs. Our club killed several good bucks the first month of the season and the dog club knew this. Once the dog season opened, low and behold they started letting out on our property lines again. We caught their dogs 4 times this season. I help on the board of my club and I’m tired of having this same conversation over the years. Either we’re going to get the game warden involved or I’m out. Is it true a dog club can be given 3 citations and their club gets shut down the season ?

FYI. I can’t shoot a dog and won’t allow other members to do it.

There's your problem right there.
Either shoot em or keep putting up with the BS.

It used to make me mad, but according to cameras and what I see while hunting it doesn't really mess with the deer too much. I have dogs on camera every other day. Same deer still moving through all season. I called the GW about it earlier this season and he said he had heard about the 3 strike rule but didn't really know how it worked and he was going to look into it. Nothing ever happened so I just let it go.

We don’t shoot does off of plots, just in the woods. Before dog season, plots full of deer in the evening. After dog season, our plots had a very noticeable drop in activity. I hear people saying dog push deer around and it doesn’t bother hunting, I strongly disagree. I saw it first hand this season.

Who is the game warden for Grove Hill?

I think folks can always find something to be upset about or an excuse as to why they don't have the ability to kill a deer and if something does something different than they do, it has to be wrong and that has to be the problem.

Let me start by assuring you all I'm not a dog hunter for deer, I have done it some and have enjoyed it but prefer stalk hunting. I have however hunted in a dog hunting club for years because that's pretty much the only option that I had but since I almost always hunted with my oldest son who was 5 at the time i joined the club, I never hunted with everyone else on dog drives. Steven and I would go get in a shooting house on a greenfield. Same property that everyone else hunted with dogs and even at the same time on weekends and we saw deer, killed deer off the field. Shot a nice buck about 60 seconds after the dogs chased a doe through our field one morning as he slipped around to avoid the dogs. Had deer come out and eat between dog drives.
Deer don't leave the planet after dogs chase them and it don't make you a better hunter to cry about how other people hunt or blame the world around you because you don't kill a deer every trip.
I think the sport would be better if we could take the whiners rights away because that's who'd divides and destroys the sport

Just because a dog comes through your place doesn't mean it was malicious intent. I think every measure should be taken to try to avoid it but if it happened and a 180 inch deer was in front of them and you killed it, would you still be pissed

Few places have ever had dog poacher problems like Chilton County back in the 80s.
We didn't have any dog hunters, we had poachers, period.
They didn't care about any private land or public roads.
Anywhere they decided to turn out was fair game.
It's way better now, but we still have a few morons who try it.
There's only one way to stop them.

Hoggin, we have their dogs on our property. I feel that disrupts MY hunting, regardless of what deer we kill. I’ve been around several dog clubs during the years. I’ve never had one that respected others peoples hunting rights as much as their own.

Tim Jacobs has come out of retirement and is doing some work. There is also a couple of younger new guys but I don't know their names.

In most cases, I agree with that logic.
But uniting with criminals is just as bad for hunting.
I will stand NOT with a poacher.

I purposely manage our plots to attract deer, not only to hunt but to observe also. I get a kick out of watching rutting behavior and just general deer activity. Just to learn. I don’t want dogs interrupting my property, especially when they don’t have to let out dogs near the property lines.

Ive been around a lot of hunters over the years and no one has any rights but tha one talking. I just hate how increasingly no one should have right to the edge of their property, no one should own a dog or have one within 20 mile of a patch of trees no one should drive by a road close to your property during daylight, neighbors don't have rights to shoot guns on their property for fun during season at all, or talk to friends on the back porch louder than a whisper

I HUNT so you have no right in hell to disturb, inconvenience or annoy me

I completely agree, if someone is caught purposely poaching by releasing dogs on your property shoot the owner. But just because they get there occasionally don't mean it was on purpose

That’s garbage and you know it. Running dogs on property lines is a big difference that what your describing. Your attitude will end dog hunting sooner than later.

THEIR DOGS CONTINUALLY ON MY LEASE.

You dog hunter apologist will never get it. They ended dog hunting in most areas and it will happen here sooner than later.

Im done with the conversation I’m out.

Dog season went out the 15th. That needs addressing if they’re still doing it. How much land do they have? I Do love all dog hunting and jackasses like your neighbors are going to mess it up for everybody. The place I hunt is 5,600 acres and they may get off of it 2 times a year driving 2 days a week. I know a few myself that’ll turn loose on 100 acres in a heart beat.

They have over 2000 acres the borders our 2600. We have one line in common. That’s where they put out.

I'm thinking they do that to run deer towards the interior of their club and to avoid dogs running towards bitching neighbors... Just my thinking though

My attitude won't save it or kill it, I don't even own a dog or hunt with dogs anymore and when I did it was hog dogs not deer dogs.
Infighting and selfishness will end hunting though I promise

My granddaddy owned tens of thousands of acres when I was a kid and I've seen him change stands because someone he didn't know got to it first on his land. I see less and less people get along and enjoy hunting. Now it's selfish jealousy of nieghbors and even club mates.

I don't think it's supposed to be that way. That's really my only point, it needs to be about more than "me", and I'm the only one with rights and you WILL let me do it my way and YOU will conform to my expectations.

That's really all my post is about. We've turned it into a competition that's driven it from " yeah, son you can go out there and try your luck" to "how much can you afford to pay me to try it".

That's why I don't let my kids hunt around other people, I try to keep them from having that attitude.
I lease land for the family to hunt and I get to know the folks around me so we can help each other and share our experiences and if I wind up with neighbors that don't wanna get along I just stay away from them

I mean they are attempting I assume to run them in to their property. A buck will head into the drive often times so cut the dogs off on your place. May pay off one day. If they’re just meandering through it won’t hurt anything I guarantee. Regardless of dogs or lines or any of it stalk hunting only after 15th of Jan and no buckshot. That’s how you get it taken care of. Glad to hear you won’t shoot the dogs though thumbup.

So you would have no problem with me pulling up to your house or places of businesses, parking on the street and letting my 15 dogs out and let them run all over your yard, in your house or your shops? That's what it's sounding like to me. If you wouldn't mind people doing that to you, you are a way better man than me. slap
