My plots have been absolutely hammered down to the ground. I am putting nitrogen on them in the next couple of days. My question is that they seem to be sparse with more bare spots than years past. I was thinking of over seeding them with something and didn’t know if I should put wheat or maybe cereal rye. I’m in Baldwin county. Thoughts?

As far south as you are both wheat and rye could still do you good. But I'd lean more on cereal rye

The cereal rye I planted this year for the first time is getting hit way more than the wheat is.

Cereal rye is your best option. Either kill some deer or make your plots bigger.

Elbon Rye but it's going to be hard to find right now everybody is probably sold out by now. You'll probably just have to go with wheat.

Elbon or Abruzzi you won't know the diff. Seed heavy next year, I don't think there is a real formula for successful planting unless you have all the equipment. You have to tailor the rates to your specific situation, but it won't hurt to go heavy as long as you fertilize to go along with a high rate.

And kill some deer, they'll stomp and eat your fields to death if you have the right forage. If you want them to slow down just mix in some rye "grass." Rye grass is not a preferred forage but is sure fills in the gaps when you need it to.
