This is only partially related but why is never budging from a particular stance no matter what new information comes to light positive?

To me adapting to new (thoroughly vetted of course) information and, if necessary, publicly acknowledging the change is a sign of intelligence and character.

Sticking with your initial conclusions no matter how much evidence mounts against them seems stubborn and childish.

Even being a conservative, to me, means making changes after they've been thoroughly investigated rather than running off with whatever hare brained ideas get floated with no testing process at all.
