Scouted a spot Sunday morning that I usually only hunt 1 or twice a year and usually with my climber. Well I get there and the sign is so good I decided to hang a lock on stand. I spent all morning back there hanging the stand, cutting shooting lanes, banging all around. Well I felt so good about the spot I had to hunt it that afternoon. I've seen 2 does all afternoon and I'm making my last check around at dark before I start packing up and sure enough I catch a glimpse of white antler behind me. I get drawn back and realize it's very dark but I still felt like I could make the shot and I let it fly. I hear a loud shwack and all I can see is my nockturnal bouncing off through the dark woods. I backed out never even looked for sign and called in CNC. Spent the next morning looking for him to no avail. No blood, hair, beds, arrow nothing. We concluded it was a non leathal high shoulder shot after a nearly 1000 yard track.
