I was going to recommend toting some good rubber boots when you go to New Orleans

I'm fairly certain you're not exactly Mr. Travel Guru so your opinion isn't worth much.
Tons of people visit New Orleans yearly & enjoy themselves when they have the right mindset.

The WWII Museum in NOLA is one of the best museums I've ever been to.
The dining & music scene there also makes it a unique place.
Being that NOLA is fairly close to him it allows him to save on fuel costs and use the saved money for the vacation instead.
If he & his wife like cajun food and live jazz music NOLA seems like the perfect place for their budget.

If you enjoy camping, I know a place you and the wife can go spend a week on the beach (with power/water/bath house) for $175 for a week.Probably one of the most beautiful areas in the Gulf.

You can drive over to my hunting camp and stay for free.
Just cost you a little gas money. Pickup a case of pop tarts and a case of beenie weenies and you are set. No other place I had rather be. Hell for a grand you could stay awhile. Gas & eats only cost you a couple hundy, tops.

If you want peace and quiet, go to Mentone. Rent a cabin. Buy groceries and cook at your cabin. You could pull off 5 days for $1000.

If you want something other than peace and quiet, go somewhere besides Mentone.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I took my wife, sister and daughter up to clingmans dome today. GSMNP is gorgeous right now. After the rain lets up tomorrow it's on up the Blueridge Parkway. Total cost of this trip? I don't know but it"s to beautiful to care a whole lot. It shouldn't be that bad though. I'm pulling my camper, so it's costing a little extra fuel, but campgrounds are a lot cheaper than a cabin or hotel. Besides that, last time I built a campfire at the hotel, they ran me off. grin

We just got back from Mexico Beach. Left early Wednesday afternoon and stayed one night at the Gulf View Motel, because our condo wasn't ready yet and we were one day early. It was $55 for a two bed efficiency and super clean and freshly remodeled and right across the street from the beach and beach access walkway. Even had a gas stove and full sized fridge.

Th next 3 nights we stayed at a super nice condo at The Club. 2 bedroom and beautiful decorated for $485 total.

We brought our own, beer, wine, booze, food, steaks, etc... and mostly cooked ourselves, but we went out to listen to music, eat and drink a few times. Probably spent $200 total going out.

Our Mazda CX-5 SUV gets 31mpg on trips so we spent about maybe $50 on gas.

So we had 4 days and nights at the beach (which is plenty for me) in a super nice condo and probably spent less than $800. October is the time to go to the beach.

We've gone on several motorcycle trips up to the Smokies on our Bonnevilles and stayed at a little motor lodge called the Tuskegee Motel out in the middle of nowhere of North Carolina for about $60 a night. It's clean and really cool in an old school kind of way. And it was a great jumping off point for awesome rides in the mountains everyday. Then at night we would sit out in front of our little room and drink bourbon. Good times for Mrs. Irish and I.

We are masters at the cheap, fun adventurous vacations. We research online and read reviews and negotiate with people. We once stayed in Ashville, NC at a lady's house for $65 a night and it was super nice. She wasn't even there so we had the whole house and she had all these nice coffees and snacks for us it was great. It was one of those AIRB&B places.

You just have to be creative and not be afraid to be adventurous. On the other hand if you (or your wife) is one of those, "I've got to have a big condo right on the beach on the 6th floor" or "I've got to have an all inclusive resort" type of people, well then more than likely you are going to be paying through the nose during peak season.

If you love your wife like Christ loves the church or as much as you love yourself, making your wife happy is really easy, because it doesn't feel like work at all, it's just y'all having fun together and doing stuff all the time like best buddies.

On the other hand if you love yourself, or your kids, or you buddies, or your hobbies, or (insert other stuff here) more than you love your wife, then keeping your wife happy will be difficult.

Women have these incredible powers of emotional perception and can easily tell when a man doesn't have that kind of love for them and it all starts there.

Take a look at Helen, GA. Beautiful country with numerous waterfalls within driving distance. Especially check out Anna Ruby Falls and drive over to Tallulah and walk the boardwalk to the bottom (caution hundreds of steps top to bottom) but worth the walk. Helen Waterfalls

so do either one of you concede that the saying "happy husband, happy life" could also apply? it doesn't rhyme but that's elementary BS.

Absolutely. As a husband and wife, you should be trying to out serve each other. My wife reciprocates the saying for me. If you're both putting the other first, you're in for a great marriage.
