The wife claims she wants to tag along on a few hunts this year, possibly schwack a deer with her crossbow, but has never really been deer hunting. She has been bird hunting (ducks/dove) plenty of times, but it is very different from deer hunting. Also she has never used a climbing stand and I just don't feel it would be the safest, easiest or most comfortable for her. So I am stuck between the decision of buying a ladder stand or a ground blind for a new piece of property that I have permission to hunt, (about half crop field/half hardwoods). What are the pros and cons of each for this type of situation and which would you lean towards and why?

Ground blind if she is a wiggler, but she will see more deer in an elevated ladder stand. My 2 cents.

I might get a 2 man ladder stand, like one of the 12'ers. I wouldn't take a young kid in a ladder, but for a wife it's fine.

Do you know any woman that can sit still? Maybe if she is an established hunter, otherwise ground blind. Then she can bring her book, Ipad, Phone treats. Plus it's hard for someone not used to it to sit still for hours.

Thomas Jefferson. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

just use the first section of a ladder stand , not too high. that should be easy for her to learn & handle the gear & safety belt,& line. eye level around 9-10 ft.just over some ground brush.

Give her a cell phone in the stand. She'll sit still for hours playing on social media. Or wait is that me on LFTT

Ground blind. There are certain things you can do in a ground blind that wouldn't be very safe in a double ladder. Especially when you think about how the harness would get in the way.

Ground blind, mine will go with me a couple times a year and we sit in a shooting house. She packs enough snacks to feed 10 people, takes her ipad and will usually get in a short nap. She enjoys the scenery and watching the sun set, after a couple of hunts she kinda "gets it". Once she was napping and about 6 does come out, she had slumped down in the chair. When I woke her up so she could see the deer she was trying to push herself up in the chair and her foot slipped and she kicked the front of the house. We both got tickled and had a good laugh about it, so much be being stealthy!

how big is she? Is IBS a factor? flatulence? These are all factors that should be taken into account when deciding. without knowing the variables I might as well flip a coin.

Not only would the climber be unsafe for her but also for your relationship. Believe me, been there done that! Ground blind will have more concealment for movement but typically the ladder stand will give better viewing. If the ladder stand is properly covered that would be my choice.
