But if you got to use buckshot, do as suggested above and test some loads/chokes.

My old browning 30" full always shot good 2 3/4" Winchester XX leads in OO

I had (past tense) a Mossberg 835 that was mean with 3-1/2 inch load of 00. It has the backbored Barrel and I believe I shot factory full.
12-ga with buckshot is an awesome weapon for tracking wounded deer in the thick.

I still have one, and that SOB can sling some lead! I swear it'll knock a 55gal drum over with turkey loads & the factory choke grin

I've never got a good buckshot pattern with anything except 5mm tss. If I absolutely had to use buckshot I'd do some experimenting with it.

I went on a deer drive in Miller's Ferry in 1976 and there were at least 50 shots fired with buckshot. We recovered one doe. I lost a fine buck myself that I shot 4 times inside of 40 yds. He poured blood and we tracked him to the property line but never found him. I said that was it for me with buckshot and never used it again until I tried the tss a few years back.

If you have to use it, do a lot of testing and then limit the range you shoot one. Good luck!

i've killed truck loads with buck shot . i have found that 30" full chock barrels work best . short barrels and chock tubes just never worked out right for me

I can't help but feel James and I are living parallel lives, except he has a lot of really nice 6-shooters and it's not fair! laugh

Reading this, it's obvious there are some real experts on buckshot and shotguns. Damn, Frankie. Triple and double. Helluva lot of difference in those two.

I checked my old Rem 1100 3", 30" full years ago when we use to dog hunt with several different loads and the Rem 00 buck was the best pattern shell. Federals and one other one would just spray out there.
