Getting fire air and fuel but will not run. It will hit sputter a few times and die. Was running pretty good then just started sputtering like it was out of fuel. Came back next day cranked it made it 30 yds and it started sputtering real bad then quit. It will not run at all for more than a few seconds now. Hit me with some ideas please.

Fuel filter or fuel pump.

Does it have rubber fuel hoses or steel lines?

It may be sucking air somewhere, or losing it's prime, or the fuel pump may be bad, or the pickup tube from the tank has holes in it above the fuel level. See if it will run on Starting Fluid, once it starts to die out. Could have water in the fuel. Lot's of possibilities. You'll just have to rule them out one at a time.

haleyville al,
Ours done that. At first it would run until you put a load on it. New fuel filter and bled the lines good to go.

Close...my old Massey was a '56 model, and gray. Didn't burn it, junked it...then bought a green one. Haven't looked back. smile

In all seriousness you've obviously got a fuel problem. I know nothing about MFs but is the 135 gas or diesel?

It was offered in both. Mine was gas, but when I needed parts for it, all I could find were for a diesel...knew another guy that had a diesel, and when he needed parts, all he could ever find were for gas...story of my life!

Reading back the first post, its obviously a gasburner.
Diesels are soooo much easier to troubleshoot.
I'm still leaning toward a fuel issue, but there's a number of electrical problems that would cause this too.

Since its a gas burners I'd probally start by checking the coil and points. My dad has a 135 with a gas burner ans i hate it
Anyways like alot of coils when the go bad will work till the get hot then quit and letting it sit and the next day it ran for a short period then died now won't hit a lick. Sounds like the coil shat the bed or you have a loose connection from ign. Switch to coil causing it to loose voltage intermittently. That's where is start

If it’s getting fire, air and fuel then it’s getting everything it needs to run I assume. I bet it’s not getting enough of one of the three once it gets going which would cause the problem. I know this sounds weird but if the battery has a dead cell in it they can sometimes work great then randomly work halfass. If you are positive about air and fuel maybe go get the battery tested at parts house. Sometimes if they have a dead cell they will still meter 12v on a dmm. Start acting up when a load is put on them. Ground cables good?

Batteries with a dead cell have given me tons of headaches and wasted time over the years troubleshooting. Just an idea

I bet $ it's fuel related and may stem
from ethanol fuel.

There's a couple more thing we have to check but after that I'm lost. I've never messed with an updraft carb so this is a learning experience.

My guess with those symptoms is water in the fuel. Drain the tank, drain the carb, out new gas in it and see what it does.

We had a 135 diesel for close to 40 years until my uncle decided to not worry about the leak in the radiator and ran it until it stopped. The MF135 diesel was one of the best tractors ever made. No way I would but a gas tractor.
