i hope the guy that done one and found out he has another youngin will chime in. Cant remember who it was. Pretty intresting read though.
Not familiar with your example, but I came here to say if you do this, be prepared to find out more than just stuff about your ancestors! I know about a case here recently where a man found out that he has another child. Father is in his late 80s and child is in mid 60s. Probably would have been better off if that hadn't been discovered after that long.

How much of this info is going to a database somewhere to be monitored? I'm usually not a conspiracy theorist but this DNA screening thing bothers me a lot.
I worry about that too, but I figure when they took my blood for insurance tests, I went into the same data bases.

If the gov't wanted your DNA, they can get it. Since I don't plan on committing any crimes that can be solved by my DNA, that just wasn't a concern to me.

Said one day the helper was kinda mopeing around and he finally asked him what was wrong, fella said he went to get his marriage license and noticed on his birth certificate he was Caucasian, said this whole time he thought he was a white redneck, didnt mention it to his wife cause he didnt wont her to know. 100% of it. Anyone is truly insane to think otherwise.

My son had one done. My great grandmother was a full blooded Chickesaw Indian but his showed no Native American. I'm going to have mine done to see what mine is.

I did it through Ancestry.com. Being a somewhat dark skinned guy I figured I had some Black, Indian, Cajun, Hispanic or something in me, but no, I am 100% white boy. Mostly Eastern Europe (Germany/Western Russia), some British, a small bit Scandinavian. Do it, you may be surprised. I was.
Bottom line is that I am the root of the world's problems.
After doing this, I've actually had a few very distant cousins contact me through Ancestry.com. Just neat to know, but no great relationships or anything came from it.
I guess I never realized that Cajuns were a dark skinned people.

My 6th great grandfather on my mother's side was a Creek chief her cousin did the research and it's all documented, but no Native American blood shows up in mine either. Possibly because he was actually the son of a Scottish guy and a Native American woman who was half Scottish herself.

My great great grandfather founded the town I’m from but I already knew that. But as far as ancestry that is blood I have no idea because I’m adopted. Most of the folks on my mom and dad’s side fought in the civil war for GA, AL, and SC. I know someone on my dad’s side that was from SC murdered some guy in an argument and moved to AL to get away from the law and that’s how his side ended up here. Other than that I don’t know too much. Like I said, I’m adopted so it won’t help me much.
It will actually help you the most... if you want to know where you actually came from.
Seems like that show long lost family has used those results to link adoptees with their birth parents.

Under no circumstances will I ever willingly turn over a sample of my DNA for recording to anyone. Maybe I'm a cynic but that stuff will eventually fall into the hands of all sorts of folks that can do damage to me. Government, scammers, etc ... They all will eventually have it on record
Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer but don't ya'll think that is something to be concerned about?

Me, My Wife and Son did the ancestry.com thing. I am 98% Northern European and 2% Nigerian. It showed my DNA being 33% Irish, 20% Western European, 17% Great Britain, 13% Scandinavian, and 8% Iberian Peninsula. There were several other regions of Europe mixed in at the lower percentages. I have Creek Indian Ancestry from the Poarch Creek Tribe but the Creeks were so Interbreed with the Scotch/Irish amongst other people of the European race that none showed in my DNA test. As far as being worried about the government using My DNA I am not concerned with that since they already have a sample from Me from Army Basic training.

I did ancestory.com for my daughter. Found out I'm so white that I am the cause of all the world's problems and I should glow in the dark. Seriously, my wife did 23 & me, which gives, in my opinion, much more useful information.

I'm the one that found out that I had a 30 year old daughter due to Ancestry.com. Thing is I would never had put my DNA out there. But my first cousin on my fathers side and a distant cousin on my mothers side did. My daughter used ancestry as a last resort. Her biological mother put her up for adoption and never told me she was pregnant. I really wasn't even sure who her momma was at first.
It's worked out though. We stay in contact. She is a lot like my oldest daughter with wife. It's almost spooky the interest and gifts that are inherited.
