CeeHawk.....glad to see another HC Alumni on the Board. I was there from 1996-2000. I only stayed at HC because of the fraternity so it had a profound impact on my life. Fun school for first 3 years then admin change my senior year entailed me having a weekly meeting with the Dean to assess what the fraternity did wrong the week before. We started off every meeting with the "damage report".
No fun getting a call bright and early on a Saturday morning with the news that "your guys" completely destroyed all the furniture in a dorm lobby the night before.
Fraternity definitely prepared me for future leadership roles. Made some great friends and count a couple as clients. Sure hate we are longer a chapter- given our nature it was just a matter of time I suppose. I had heard it was a lot more "liberal" in terms of what was allowed to happen on campus before I got there. I was there from 2005-2009. Things weren't too bad when I was there as long as you didn't get too crazy it was all good. There were a few Sundays some guys got called to the field house because we went too hard on Saturday night. All in all it was a great school and experience.

I was a Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) My son is a Kappa Sigma
My father, Uncle, grandfather, both great grandfathers were all Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE). One of whom was a founding member of its alpha chapter.
All at Alabama.
To those who keep saying its about buying friends you are wrong. The money is not that bad in the scope of things. My sons house bill covers all his meals (which I don't have to buy through the University) and the food is outstanding. He also has numerous parties and other functions that the dues cover. If you live in the house the savings are even greater but he is in engineering and does not want the constant distractions of living there.
My pledge class was 37 men. I am in close contact with 17 of them and loose contact with the rest. They are my closest friends and many of them would be my first call if I had a problem. The people from high school (Central here in Tuscaloosa) I dont keep up with as much.
I love my country, but don't trust my government.

Didn't have time, money, nor the interest. I was married engaged, with a mortgage, and working full time in the mines, going to school at night. my story

To those who keep saying its about buying friends you are wrong... Yep One of my best friends and a fraternity brother lost his wife yesterday. 10 of us are banding up to support him. If we had been 'bought friends' we wouldn't be bothering with him 30 years later

I reckon so! Was president of my chapter (AUM) and it definitely prepared me for later challenges. I hate that my the chapter fell apart. The nature of the college has changed from when I was in school. Most of us went to school full time and worked (some of us) part time which gave us plenty of time for social functions and the like. Most kids at that school now work full time and juggle an almost full time job so fraternity stuff gets squeezed out. Some of us alumni have talked about maybe getting the chapter reorganized but that's as far as it's gotten. For me, being in a fraternity was one of the best decisions I ever made. 30 years later I still talk to some of my brothers every week. Closest and best friends I've ever had. Some of my best times in my life included those guys. In fact, one came in as a patient yesterday. Oh, as as far as Huntingdon goes, those AO Pi's could freakin drink! When we had swaps with those chicks, we had to buy waaaaaay extra beer. Some of those girls could drink our guys under the table. Embarrassing but true. We called them A-O Pisces because they could drink like fish! Had I gone to HC I would have pledged Kappa Sigma. My dad was one at University of Georgia and my son pledged KS at Mississippi State.
