No doubt. It will help you to learn how to read the wind and cost less to shoot. It suggest when you do step up a 300 win or a 7mm. There is a world of difference at that range in the upgrade. Nah. If you gonna do it I would go with a 6.5/284. It's a beast at 1000. My hand loads hit with only a 100 ft/lbs of energy less than my 300wm at the same distance I agree my response was more directed at barrel life if he was going to be shooting a lot. The 6.5/284 is a heck of a cartridge but quick to burn a barrel out. As far as energy goes, it wont matter unless he is shooting at animals that far. I would find it hard to believe however that your 6.5/284 with a 140 grain pill would have only 100ft/lbs less than my 300 win mag pushing a 210 grain pill. I could be wrong and gladly admit it if I am.
Only accurate rifles are interesting.
