I have shot slam out of bullets on many of occasions. Most of the time at the same deer.

Only regret I have with hunting is not starting sooner in my life. But it is what it is and I enjoy every aspect of it.

Only one big one. While in college I was mule deer hunting way up a canyon by myself because I could not find anyone to go with me. Had never hunted Mule Deer before. On opening day I saw over fifty does but nary a buck.Just at dusk I saw movement about 200 yards away, crossing a very small open area between some Aspens.Threw up my rifle, saw a deer with an obvious rack and let one fly. It was a split second decision and there was no time to study the animal before the shot. Animal goes down and I am stoked to have shot my first Mulie. Right up until the moment I came over a small rise and saw about 800 lbs of freaking Elk laying on the ground. At that time fines were in the $1000-$2000 dollar range with possible jail time so I did the only thing that seemed feasible at the time. Went back and picked up my shell casing, hauled arse to camp, broke it down and hiked out in the dark as fast as I could walk.I did call DNR with an anonymous tip about it when I got home in hopes that the meat would not be wasted but who knows.

Thinking about this Q a bit more ... I actually do have one regret ... and it's that I didn't get into archery/bow hunting sooner than I did ... I really enjoy the pre-gun season peacefulness of the hunt & wish I would have gotten into it many more years ago ...

Waiting on a "better" shot a couple of times on very nice bucks in thick timber And letting them slip away. Have learned to take the first kill shot presented. Don't get many 2nd chances where I hunt.

My biggest regret is also the same reason i stopped bow hunting for a while. Then started back bow hunting and tore my rotator cuff and had nerve damage. I was 16 bow hunting and had sighted my bow in during the summer and didnt shoot it again till the day i went hunting. I had been sitting there for 5 hours and had a nice tall wide 6 point around 2.5 years old walk out and start grazing i pulled back and aimed for a sweet spot and let the arrow fly only to watch it shave its back literally. I was pissed at my self after that happened when i got back to the house told my dad what had happened and he said "i forgot to tell you but about a month ago his wife at the time has moved my sights up and down asking what they did" i was even more angry at my self for not checking it before season started mad at her for messing with my bow that she ended up stealing when they divorced. She was about a friendly as a pack of rabid pit bulls. But i took it as a lesson learned the hard way, my grandpaw always told me i seemed to like to learning the hard way anyway

This was almost a regret. I had seen this deer through trees twice before I killed him and could never make out his rack or much about his body. I moved my setup closer to his trail one morning and had him at 20 yards broadside within the first 15 minutes I was there. For about a minute he stood there and fed with his head straight forward and I could only see the side of his rack. I decided to let him walk because I thought he was just a basket rack. He started to walk off and got about 30 yards out and was about to disappear and he turned to look down the mountain and at that point I could see his rack for what it was and raised the crossbow and let him have it. If he had made 3 more steps before he turned his head, this would be one of those regret stories.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

Wish I would have started hunting the mid-west a whole lot sooner than 3 years ago.

I regret deciding in 1991, I didn't want to spend time in the woods with my father. After a 2009 Texas axis hunt, got back into it with him. We hunt now, but I kick myself every time I think of wasted years. I'm sorry, Dad.
