We are getting off subject but I have always thought "they all do it". If they all do it how can Alabama be consistently better than Ole Miss....or just about all SEC teams? They are all doing it. Because recruiting and tradition still play a big part in where a kid chooses to go and Alabama has the best of both. Some players don't need as much as others and some need a lot done for them. Most times , from what I've seen, it's just a few dollars and maybe a car. Other times it's a house and job for mom and cars for the player. I've only met two players personally that made it clear where their car came from and that was a long, long time ago. In the last few years I've talked with a realtor , who was a good friend, that was told to find a house for a prominent players mother. I also met a booster at a big school that talked a lot but could have been making up everything he told me. About 5 years ago I met an NCAA attorney who was liquored up and talking pretty good about what they "knew" but couldn't prove. I don't really think it's cheating if everyone is doing it.

Alabama's recruiting and tradition are superior and/or on another tier, and especially now with Saban there and his coaching, methods, processes, pathways to the NFL and so forth. Just like Kentucky with basketball. It doesn't mean they're clean as virgins in the first winter snowfall. But it's foolhardy to not believe some universities-teams are just more attractive and that carries over on a consistent basis. Whatever else comes along for players and/or parents in the form of benefits likely is gravy. Get away from the Power schools and look at North Dakota State. Who the hell would want to spend winters in North Dakota? I mean, there are things to do but if you're a really good football player, you go there when you maybe could go elsewhere even if you walk on? To North Dakota? It's $*(@$#* cold as whale shizzle there in winter. But their football program is consistently good. It may not be a Power team like OSU or Meechegan or Alabama but for that level of play, it's where players want to go because of the facilities, tradition, consistency and a chance to win championships.

I think he left out 1: Perception. Perception plays as big a role as tradition. If you get a scholly to UA now the perception is you are a great player and will have a shot at the NFL. With all this, I still can't figure why or how Texas can't run with big boys EVERY year.

They never had even a good recruiting class before Freeze. From what I heard Orgeron recruited good players while he was there The Big O is a good recruiter. I think he'll do well at LSU just based on the talent that he'll have as the only SEC school in a talent rich state. The days of other SEC teams poaching Louisiana are going to be greatly reduced.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Lol, no. Alabama will still take who they want from Louisiana, as Saban has for 10 years

Too much ego, too many fingers in the steer's ass, living on the "Eh, we're Texas. Who would want to go to Baylor or TCU or Houston or, of all places, Tech?" Basically, a little of what Alabama went through post-Stallings and pre-Saban. Some of the old guard thinking their @$(* didn't stink, ever, and not listening to anyone, and anyone who wouldn't deign to join the great ranks wasn't worthy of anything ever no-way no-how despite months earlier during recruiting being the bestest thing ever in the world. Bunch of folks at Texas still going through that, along with some being dipshit racists and undercutting Charlie Strong (and Strong not adapting as quickly as he needed to, too). Lot of stuff going on at Texas. They floundered around too long on the curve and are playing catch-up now.

On a serious note, but how many coonass head coaches has LSU had in the last 10 years?

Bama got the #1 linebacker in the nation from right under "O"'s nose.....Keep an eye on Dylan Moses. He is a beast at LB. "O" tried so hard to keep him at LSU but came in 2nd to Saban.
