I know that their are sometimes religious or medical reasons parents use for not vaccinating their children. Have any of you ever given the ethics on this subject much thought? BTW, for medical reasons my medically fragile son could not get the Tdap vaccine after his bone marrow transplant. He somehow came down with pertussis and it almost killed him. I was a little ticked because this disease was almost eradicated until not that long ago. I know that there is growing segment of misinformed parents who refuse to vaccinate themselves or their children. Thoughts?

Not only that, illegal immigrants are bringing more diseases that had been eradicated here. Everyone I've ask about vaccines and things like downs say e same thing. Downs is caused by missing gene. Not something a vaccine can do.

My thoughts are aside from rare medical conditions like you pointed out,... you are a complete douche bag and your kid should be banned from daycares and schools if you don't get vaccines.

Both my children were vaccinated, but it's not something that comes totally without risk. Children die every year as a direct result of those vaccinations. I'm glad my children weren't part of that statistic.

Idot I think more die without them. Just about all kids got them when I was young. they ended most of polio. it was very visible during my childhood. You used to see kids with leg braces all the time. I've seen that in a very long time Thank God.

If you're kids get vaccinated and mine don't, why should it matter? Those vaccines should protect your kids, right? Mine, and others that don't get vaccinated would be the only ones at risk, correct?

I don't really get this sentiment either. If your kids have been vaccinated, then they're safe. Why do you care if someone else's child isn't?

I can see both sides of this argument. During my college years I worked at a camp for kids with disabilities. I know of at least one kid that had a profound mental condition that was supposedly attributed to a vaccine. According the the parents he was perfectly normal until the vaccine was administered around age 5. While the odds of that happening are low, it does happen. I can't imagine how those parents must feel.

It doesn't automatically guarantee your kid is safe from it to get the vaccines, if it did, than yes your scenario is true

I don't know the numbers, but I would assume you are talking one in a million type numbers on the vaccines causing diseases. No doubt less than a if we all decided to not vaccinate and spread all kinds of diseases

Also, for those that don't get vaccinated, you could be directly responsible for a child with a compromised immune system getting an almost eradicated disease and dying from it.

I'm just playing devil's advocate. My child had all hers but there are some troubling things regarding vaccines and their effects. There are probably some I would forgo in hindsight. Notice I linked the government cdc site that says they put mercury, aluminum and formaldehyde in some vaccines (but it's in very small amounts so it won't hurt. Yeah right. )

All the loons who say vaccines cause autism and other issues site a study by a doctor from England that a number of years later admitted he faked his research and manipulated his numbers.

Aside from that one "study", there has not ever been a per reviewed medical study linking vaccines to autism.

You can choose not to believe that, but it's true. There is a dose response relationship for all of those chemicals, and it's a well defined relationship that scientists are able utilize in situations like this.

Everyone says, "If your child is vaccinated, the. It doesn't matter if my child isn't." That doesn't work when you factor in that some vaccines are given in stages and some as late as 5 years old.

You don't see how mercury and formaldehyde in vaccines at levels higher than the government says is safe in drinking water could be a problem? I understand it is a one time dose, most times but it's injected as opposed to consumed which I would assume is worse. Drug companies have caused many a death as well as saved many lives. I'm not going to condone or condemn because I think a case could be made either way.

So you're saying that the vaccines aren't 100% effective but we should get them because it's selfish if we don't? Thats not a strong argument.

I guess that I am a loon, but then again I have seen it 1st hand and have been around this child from day-one to his current age of 15-years old.

As a child he was as healthy as could be determined for his age. He had the DPT shot and things went downhill. He has been diagnosed with low functioning autism.

If you would like to speak with his mother or family, I would be happy to arrange a meeting with them and you can share your extensive knowledge about the lack of evidence between immunizations and autism. They would probably show you the before pictures and after and you can make your own determination.
