i don't use a sleeping bag unless it's winter and getting below 40 or I'm in an environment where the temps drop a lot a night (desert or high altitudes). For the areas you're talking about, I would pack a good pad and my "woobie" (poncho liner). Saves a lot of weight & space and the poncho liner can usually be stuffed anywhere in the pack. For cooler times like fall and spring, I switch out the poncho liner for a down blanket.
If you already have quilts for your hammock setup, just use those with a good pad.

If the weather cooperates I can sleep in a hammock with a sleeping bag or not depending on temps. I'll only take the tent for rain. I have a ridge rest and a self inflating pad. I appreciate the responses thanks guys and good luck to you guys. Awt6 that's awesome I hope ya'll have a great trip.

Just get a pop-up camper with a really strong awning.

I've got a Hybrid now and yes the awning is strong. Were going to walk and I imagine a small amount of a good spirit may tag along but I'm not dragging a cooler. Trust me I've got that t-shirt.

I have slept many a night in a hammock out here in the 20's or lower with no problem. Usually wind up too hot to be honest. Best part is not laying on the ground. I'm an advocate for hammocks and wish everyone would try it - the right way.

I did the Sipsey a few years ago when I was back 'home' in a hammock. It was great. Honestly don't see how you could go wrong in Alabama with one. Conditions here are far worse and I can get by with no issue.

Guess it comes down with what you want to do. The flexibility a hammock affords is valuable IMO. Picking a campsite is easier in some ways. Throw up a tarp and you are good relative to the weather.

Been here long enough to go from "bring 'da pain" to " bring 'da pain meds.

I ordered 2 of these. 23 oz? That seemed insane. A quilt weighs 3 pounds.
