I finally caught a couple on the Whopper Plopper this morning. Threw the 130 a lot. Didn't get bit so changed to the 90. Caught a couple quick on it. Here's my question. How much would it mess you up to remove back hook? I'm fishing over submerged grass on Gville. Both fish this morning caught on front hook. I think it would make it a little more weed free. If that thing ever gets a blade of grass on a hook, you can forget it running right.

Caught a bunch yesterday on the 130, haven't gotten a second look at the 90. Hooked a big double, yesterday, but lost the one on the tail hook when landing them. Everything I caught was on the front hook...they smash that lure!

AC, I doubt if removing the back hook would diminish the action although I haven't tried it. Give it a whirl and see how it works.
The way the hooks dangle and then the way the bait tilts ass-down when it stops, the only way I'd run it over submerged grass is if the grass was at least 7-10 inches below the surface. Even then, floating grass would screw it up, especially the eelgrass. Found that out a few weeks ago with my 130 ... one blade of grass can be a PITA.

You can't spook very well either once the grass gets up. If nothing else the broken floating grass fowls the lure.

I'm gonna try it Clem. Can always put it back on. I guess I gotta buy some split ring pliers. Probably needed some anyway. You're right though. One sprig of grass wrecks it.

These are the best split-ring pliers I've found. I have 2-3 of the older version, and it appears they have a larger model now. http://www.texastackle.com/pliers.htmIf you switch out hooks -- and a lot of baits have inexpensive hooks to save money in production -- these are great pliers.

Perch is right. I think mine are at least 15 years old and have been worth every penny. Switching hooks on split rings is a pain in the butt but the pliers are gold.

Actually, AC, if I can find my extra pliers I'll bring them by your office sometime this week. I may be down that way for some, uh, lure research. ![laugh laugh](/forum/images/graemlins/default/laugh.gif)
