I would guess he pulled his arrow off the rest. It's amazing this didn't happen more with the old two prong rests.

I used two-prong rests for about 25 years....never a problem.

Most likely the arrow snapped when he released and it shot him in the hand. I'm sure that had to hurt but it could have been much worse.

Happened to my son when he 14 years old. Makes me sick everytime I see a pic like this. Easton ACC hyper-speed 3-49. Being shot out of a 40lb pull bow.He got to hunt opening weekend of bow season that year and the last weekend of gun.Arrow broke soon as the touched the trigger. He was lucky he still has full use of his hand.Took 3 operations to digging pieces of arrow out.

I was shooting on the practice targets at an ASA Pro/Am in Fort Benning several years back when I heard a loud noise that sounded like a bow being dry fired. I turned and saw a dude dropping his bow and grabbing his hand. He had just bought some Carbon Express arrows with pin nocks from a vender and am not sure if the nocks were bad or improperly install, but as he released the arrow the nock broke breaking the arrow and embedding the back half of the broken shaft into his bow hand.
