That storm by Talladega is starting to spin. Large hail core also. That area of the state is going to have the best dynamics for development.

However, we have a steady northerly warm wind here, so I bet it starts firing up fast north of Montgomery in an hour or so. Sun's come out and temps/humidity have increased here in NorBama in the last two hours, along with wind. Expecting the evening target hours to get interesting.

That storm by Talladega is starting to spin. Large hail core also. That area of the state is going to have the best dynamics for development. It just came through Oxford as I watched it from my hotel. Strong winds and rain with small hail. It looks like it moved up I20 and Cleburne county is under a tornado warning now.

Just as I predicted. Today's weather was much overhyped. A big to do about nothing.

Just as I predicted. Today's weather was much overhyped. A big to do about nothing. After what I saw in Hackleburg, Phil Campbell and Tuscaloosa in 2011 it made a believer out of me. So on days like today I pray for the best but won't be surprised if all hell breaks loose. No sir not anymore.

Several members on this site were directly impacted. Some, like Daggerz , went through hell that day.

Just as I predicted. Today's weather was much overhyped. A big to do about nothing. I guess it would have satisfied you more to see a big debris ball on radar and see people's lives destroyed. I don't understand the disappointment. I'd much rather a weather guy be off on days like this. Hang in there though, it's early April.

I think the call was premature. Should have reviewed it in the morning, then made the call. I got a notice before 8pm that school was closing today. I rather error on the side of caution, and I am only one person. Maybe mid-day cancel, and not enough buses. etc.

There are several parents down in Enterprise whose kids might be alive today if school had been cancelled on a day like this several years ago. If you want to assign a reason for schools being overly cautious, the death of those kids in Enterprise would be it.

Several members on this site were directly impacted. Some, like Daggerz , went through hell that day. Nope. I'd rather every one be safe than sorry. Me and Jeremy stood on our porch right here near goosepond and watched the clouds spinning above us then over the mountain as debris rained down on scottsboro. Shortly after, it hit and destroyed a lot of the rainsville area. A lot of people I grew to know from church lost everything they had and even worst, lost loved ones. My pastor and another buddy who was a LEO tells me stories of them helping rescue people and unfortunately some that didn't make it, a total of 35 just in rainsville alone. My cousin who was a combat medic in Afghanistan says some of what he seen that day of April 27th could be compared to what he seen on the battle field. I'd much rather the weathermen get it flat wrong and no one get hurt vs not being cautious enough or prepared for it.

My emphasis was more on the timing of the call. I think the call was premature. Should have reviewed it in the morning, then made the call. I got a notice before 8pm that school was closing today. In 2011 I was out of town. The shitheads who were "watching the forecasts" delayed school in the morning, then announced it was on -- so students went. Then at 11 a.m. or so when the shat hit the fan they said they were letting out early but no students could leave because of the weather. They were retained in the school. My wife went to the school to get our daughter and was stuck there with her. Their cell phones would not work at the time because of the overload and weather problems. Our son was home by himself because he was sick, and went to a neighbor's house. Doesn't bother me one iota if they cancel classes 24 or 48 or 72 hours early out of prudent thinking. I'd rather see a delay or cancellation and nothing happen than a storm hit a school full of kids. It's a no-win for school boards and the weather folks: If they don't do enough they get bitched at for not telling anyone. If they try to be prudent and nothing happens they get bitched at for creating hysteria. Probably best for a lot of folks to just watch the skies themselves like in the 1800s and then get shitcanned by lightning, tornadoes, hail or wind.

I don't think anybody hoped or is disappointed there's no bad weather today here much we're just all tired of the Armageddon apocalypse type hype the weather folks drum up these days. It's pretty awful ^^^^ why did we close schools and declare a state of emergency in the state. It was some good rain and thunder and a pretty day overall. I guess I get the school closings but the state of emergency declaration is garbage until after the event
