What variety do y'all usually go with? I'm thinking about mixing in a little with my soybeans this summer. I did a test last year where I planted some "deer corn" in the garden and it grew, produced a little, and tolerated a spray of gly.

Give it a try. I added 7 lbs/ac to my rr bean field this year and it turned out great. Only downside is my deer must be a little odd in that they have hardly touched it.Might take a year or two for them to figure it out.

I just want to try it for one plot as an experiment. Wonder if it would also slow the browsing of the beans down a little. I had pods on beans opening weekend of gun season and had deer pouring in until they were gone.

During the summer or winter? Summer no, winter maybe.

If you wanna get real fancy you could get a simple electric fence kit from tractor supply to keep them off of the corn until you want to hunt it. Bait it with peanut butter and they'll get the message the first night. It won't stop all intrusions, but it will keep them off enough to allow you to hunt over standing corn.

You really need to plant a pretty good amount of corn for it to be worth it. Once it matures.....a little bit will likely get wiped out in a hurry and be gone before the season ever starts.

I think my deer are stupid. They don't eat half of what I plant for them as it is so I'm taking that chance. laugh

Is three acres of corn big enough to get a real benefit?. It ain't cheap either. Planting roundup ready corn and fertilizing according to the soil test recs will cost about $150/acre just for seed and fertilizer

I think I'll try planting sunflower seeds from Tractor Supply on a larger scale. Corn is a lill bit high dollar for something that may not come up and the deer may not eat it. A fifty pound bag of black oil sunflower seeds run around 20 bucks and the deer will eat them. At least mine will.

It be's that way sometimes.
