My Yeti tundra 65 still has ice in it from the July 4th weekend. Same... Yours is better than mine because it gets to ride in the back of a Tacoma everyday.

Do you support generic drugs? This is their recipe for success. They make a copy cat and sell it at a lower price because they have zero dollars invested in the development of the original drug. Good. I hope Yeti ripped them a new one. It's sickening that it's so easy for someone to steal someone's idea that they developed, spent money on to produce and TOOK THE RISK to bring it to market. So many products like that now. Maybe it will help squelch the copy cats. No.

I just believe that original and innovative thought is the key to providing new and innovative products, technology etc. To produce it is expensive. Copying something produces no new thought. If you bring truly new technology or products to market, you know you had better make your profits fast, because some jackleg that has never had an original thought is going to do everything he can to steal it from you as quickly as he can. The lack of protection and the cost of defending yourself has diminished the carrot for people to risk development. Not to mention the Indians and Chinese stealing intellectual product as soon as its introduced. It is not a right to own the latest greatest or best product.

I'll say up front that I'm not up on drug manufacturing patent laws, but I believe that there is a shelf life on drug patents and once they expire that is when other companies begin making the generic versions.

Not sure the cost of R&D for a cooler remotely compares to that of big pharma.

RTIC introduced theirs first. Pretty simple.

RTIC introduced theirs first. Pretty simple. Not sure "introducing" something is what the lawyers are looking at Patents dont really care what hits the stores first

It use to be 5 years for drugs then its fair game for everyone to make. I'm not sure about the answer to this. I know drug patents are good for 17 years just like all other patents. But I do recall a push from the drug companies for an extension because FDA approval can literally take years to achieve. The 17 year patent is good from the time it's filed, not the day the FDA actually approves your drug. They may have passed a law giving them 5 years once it goes to market. Actually, the biggest scheme in big Pharma is the "first to market" law in the generic industry. The first generic form of a drug to hit the market is given dibs on the market for 1 year without competition. There is literally a race to the FDA office every day that a drug patent is set to expire. Everyone wants to be the first company to present a generic form of a drug. Lawmakers say this policy encourages and promotes the development of generics. Horse crap. It keeps pockets lined. The profits from a generic drug should be incentive enough.

My prediction is the this lawsuit will actually help RTIC sales. I agree. I haven't bought a Yeti cooler because the prices are so high. Never heard of RTIC until I read this thread. Went to their website and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a 65, at half the price of a Yeti 65.

I'm not dumb enough to pay hundreds of $$$ for an ice chest. I'll just buy another $1.50 bag of ice.

I think the theory is that you might run into a situation where you perhaps can't buy ice for a longer period of time than you can keep the ice that you have from melting If you are just hanging out at a gas station, I agree, styrofoam cooler is the way to go
