I don't remember what the gross was either, I'll see if I can find a score sheet, but after deductions it scored 182 7/8th. The Alabama state record typical for many years. I think it still ranks #2. Killed in the 70's, when soybeans were king, in the Wedgeworth community in Hale County.

This was a huge deer. Like Troy said, he had killed one the week before that weighed 305#, and when they went to hang this deer, its head wouldn't clear the ground. The hunter in the picture is Jimmy Bailey. R.I.P. Uncle Jimmy

Bama, I seem to recall a 202" gross score.

When I went to Hale Co in 1980 everytime a big buck kill came up someone asked if it was big as Jimmy Baileys buck. I finally went to Jimmy house and asked to see the buck. We ended up taking it down off the wall and I measured it. I ended up taking the head to Joel Stone to have him measure it, then Jimmy took it to a official B&C measurer in Miss to have it officially scored.

It is still the biggest hunter killed B&C buck from Alabama 40 years after it was killed.

The deer was so big the taxidermist overlapped the skin on the back of the neck by 10" to make it fit the largest form he could find at that time. The deer was HUGE.

Jimmy and fiends hunted by riding roads early and finding a big track and turning a single hound out on the track. They then looped ahead of the dog to cut the deer off.

Ha ha. It's a picture of a picture. As many times as I've been around this mount, I don't actually have a photo. The photo was taken for an article in Alabama Game and Fish magazine, that was printed and framed. Next time I visit with my aunt, I'll have to take some actual photos.

Yeah, I see that now. From that pic it doesn't look like it would have 20" in deductions. That's the one that nets 2" more than Willie Martin's but Willie's grossed about 10 inches more than that one.

I think he might score 194. after deductions I'd say around 182. Heck of a nice buck.

Willies is a hell of a deer.

Baileys scores B&C as a typical only.

Both are high end anywhere whitetails range. I wish Photobucket wasn't acting up, I'd throw up Willie's Bankhead Monster. Willie's is a something, has 4 tines over 12", two of those are 14+!

Yep, Black Warrior WMA is in The Bankhead Forest. I've seen Willie's buck billed as "The Bankhead Monster".
