so, I'm sitting in a ground blind today on the Cahaba WMA watching a couple of good game trails leading to a food plot about a hundred yards away. I got in early this morning and had planned to ride things out as long as I could.
Just before noon, I spot movement, but couldn't really tell anything about it, so I waited on "high alert"!
It seemed to take forever, but I could still see this deer moving in the pines, and headed my way.
Then I saw it, HORNS!
The old boy eased thru the woods without making a sound. It was really amazing to watch.
As he stepped into an opening, I bout shat my pants. He was LARGE!
Biggest deer I've ever seen.
I steadied myself as best I could and took aim... breathe.. squeez...BOOM!!!

Long story short, I missed.
I was devastated. I looked for an hour for blood, hair, anything...nothing.

I went home soaking wet and empty handed.

Well fuzz it happens. Anyone who said they've never missed one hasnt shot at a whole lot of them. If you have the time I would ease back in there in a couple of days do a grid search. Look for crowes, and buzzards. With everything being as wet as it is you can miss blood pretty easy.

Man guys I'm sorry I've been no help. All I e killed is a doe. Complete opposite of my past 5 years killing multiple bucks a year. Right now I'm just ready for this season to be over and get to next years.

I actually set up a target this afternoon and took a 20 yard shot... I was off 6 inches to the left. Now if my math/geometry is correct, that puts me off by about 200 miles at 100 yards!
Seriously though, I was off so bad that I am confident that it was a clean miss.
I am going back to the same spot this next weekend and give it another try.
BTW when I shot, the buck didn't act like he was hit. He wheeled around and ran back into the direction he came from.

Heck yeah top cat. Can't wait to see the pics. I work off Monday morning, and start vacation til 2/10. Hopefully I can get us an upgrade.

Good job topcat, I got a small buck few days ago but the one I've been after at the club keeps giving me the slip, maybe he makes a mistake before season ends

Shot one this evening. Quartered away. I believe bullet hit opposite shoulder. He got knocked in a circle and went crawling off. Shoulder we're not working. Should be dead
