My hunting buddies are about half and half. Some every one they shoot is a monster then when you find it they say that's not the deer I shot at  , and others go with the aww it looked decent then there's a giant laying there. As for me I feel pretty confident in my field judging of age so I shoot for maturity in the field. Trail cameras tend to throw me off a bit though. I always think they're a lot bigger in pictures than they are on the ground.

My wife's first deer started as a decent 6 point and ended up being this 11 point. And it was only 50 yards. I guess I was just so excited we had her a buck to shoot that it didn't matter anyway.  That things got a lions mane  ! Great deer and I can't tell you how envious I am of all you dudes that have wives who like to hunt! Seriously though that deer's neck looks a lot more like an elk than a white tail.
