I usually hunt with a 30-06 shooting 180gr. I recently bought a savage hog hunter in 308 i was wondering how the 308 shot 180s. Point for asking is i handload for everything except for the 30-06 and 308. Dont have dies for a 308 but do for the 30-06 just want to wait till after season was up before working loads up for the 30-06 and wanted to buy a binch of 180gr for both guns. I mean if the 308 ends up not liking the 180s they'd still get used in the 30-06

If it's a 1/10 twist..150's, 165's, 168's and 175's

168's for both and you should be set.

150 then 165. I like 168s for paper targets.

I just shot a ruger American in today using the hornady precision hunter in 308 and it liked that load and it is 178gr. I usually don't shoot heavy bullets but wanted to see how these did and it out did my expectations.

I recently purchased a hog hunter 308 also. The guy I got it from said it shot 168 grain best. But I've shot 165 and 150 from it and have been very disappointed in the grouping. I Shoot from a lead sled during testing. You tube has a test where it shoots core lock 150 awesome.

I know people think it's heavy for caliber but I shot federal fusion 180s out of the Ruger American Compact I had and it knocked holes. Kinda beating myself up for selling it.

150s core lokts in my hog hunter but im not punching paper or shooting a long ways with it. I use mine for a truck/stomping/tree stand gun and i dont use a scope.

I shot 150 Winchester power max ammo last year and my gun liked it. This year a friend of mine handloaded 165ssts for me and they are awesome rounds and group very well in my rifle. I'm shooting a ruger American.

Shoot 165s for both.

The 30-06 I load for loves 56.5 grains of IMR4350 and 165 grain Accubonds.

My Ruger shoots 165g SSTs best. My Dad always shot 150g in his 30-06.

In my opinion 180's are not where the 308 shines. Due to case capacity, the 30-06 really takes the lead over the 308. plus 180's deeper seating further intrude on the 308 powder capacity. I would try 150s or 165s in your favorite bullet and see what the gun likes.

165 or 168's (Whichever shoots best if your gun) I personally would start with those rounds and then go from there.
