I gave up growing corn for this reason. The first year I had a very nice 3 acre patch that made really well and the deer wouldn't eat it in the early season. They had never seen any growing in a field before and didn't seem to know how to eat it. It was February before the cleaned it up. The next year they were familiar with it and cleaned the field before Christmas. The next year it was completely gone by October 15, so I gave up growing it.

But I waited about 5 years until all those deer were dead and was able to grow it a couple of years and have at last a decent length of time.

Yeah I've got the biggest 2 years olds I've ever seen. I'd like to hear some more about your land! That must be my problem cause those bucks would never make it to 4 if I could kill 140" 3 year olds

I've seen deer walk across green field and corn to get to peanuts.

No I had no problems with it. I plowed it under this winter after 4 years. Gonna plant the spot in something else this spring, then replant alfalfa in spring of 18. The first 3 years it would grow 18" in 24-28 days after cutting it for hay, in May or June and again in September. Soil pH MUST be correct.

I think my deer are "special". They do not really seem to know quite what to do with the corn. They have barely touched this field except for the bushogged lanes.This is a mix of beans and 7 lbs/ac Pioneer corn, do not remember the maturity, that got no additional N other than the initial 300/lbs ac of 13/13/13.There is lots of corn out there, they just are not using it yet.
