Thinking about planning a trip to Jackson Hole with the wife for her birthday. Wanting to go during January maybe cause our kids have a small break in between sports. Would like some info on where to stay and what to do. Definitely want to ski. It's been about 12 years since I have been there so I'm sure a lot has changed. Any help and Information is greatly appreciated

Drop a note to Jwyatt...I think they've been up there, or at least in that area, once or twice.

I've never been there in winter, but I can tell you from my summer trips that God reached down and did a little special work from Jackson on north to Yellowstone. Grand Teton NP is the prettiest place I've seen on this planet.

We used to stay at the Rendezvous Condos - a 3/3 ski in/out. We were there to ski so you may want something closer to town. Many great choices, just be ready to break out the wallet.

We went a few years ago and did a snowmobile ride through Yellowstone to see Old Faithful on a day we didn't ski.

Yep. It's also pretty pricey, but all skiing out west is. And y'all also better be decent skiers because I think half the runs (literally) are black diamonds.

Glad to hear that y'all give the Rustic Inn a thumbs up. I am headed out there in February for a ski trip. We also have booked a snowmobile excursion into Yellowstone to see old faithful.

My wife and I stayed at the Wyoming Inn. Not the fanciest place, but it was convenient to one of the town transportation stops. We did the snowmobile ride and enjoyed it. If you want to do any of the dog sled trips, you better be booking those ahead of time. The skiing there is pretty tough. The elk reservation is a neat place.
Must eats:
The Gunbarrel (for the food, get the bone in elk chops)
Million Dollar Cowboy (for the movie)
Silver Dollar Saloon (for the history)

Dang. That sucks if the snowmobile trip into Yellowstone just follows the road. I was expecting a little more back-country appeal. So be it. It's booked already, and according to the research, you best keep your booking. Otherwise, you may end up not going at all.

Any tips on lift passes? That's about the last thing on the list aside from ski rentals. We are there for 5 days and only want to ski two, lift passes are only sold as daily or 3 day combos, the better buy being the 3 day. Not to mention the ski school for those that will be with us that have never skied before.

Dont worry, you do stay on the road in yellowstone but there's plenty to see. There were bison on the road when we were riding close enough to touch. It was a little uncomfortable. They ran two or three people off of the road into the ditch and one bull chased two or three in our group for about 4-5 miles as hard as he could run. all we culd do is stay back and follow so we wouldnt get lost because one of them was our guide.

I'd call and see if you can change the snowmobile trip. If you want to see Yellowstone try and get one of the tours in the vans with tracks or snow tires. That will actually allow you to look at the scenery instead of focusing on driving the snowmobile the whole time.

The off-road snowmobile trips are way more fun. We did the Togwotee pass trip a couple years back and it was a lot of fun.
