I've posted this pic before, but look at it closely. This pic was made 2 or 3 weeks ago, long before it rained. I planted the patch mid September, and got a nice rain right after. It all came up with a good stand, but after 2 months of no rain, it's all dead except the turnips. They are able to survive anything.

This is an upland field and it's had turnips since the 80s when my dad planted feed wheat in it. It's been sprayed with Weedmaster 7 or 8 times over the years, but there is such a seed bank there that I have given up. It will be a pretty field of solid turnips after this rain.

Don't believe it when people say the deer won't eat them- they will if they are hungry. I've seen a lot of deer in it this fall, and there is nothing there but stunted turnips.
