I know that we're all aware of the drought. Where I hunt is as brown as it's ever been. The pasture is as brown as dirt and there is little, if any green on the mountain. (Jackson county) Acorns are minimal at best. I have two food plot areas cleared and ready for planting, but will need to be.. de-leafed as it were.
I have a food plot mixture from a local feed n seed. Nothing special. I've got no issues spreading it and hoping/praying for the best. Is it worth my time to clear the leaves and spread the seed before the next rain in the hopes of getting something to sprout this late in the year? Is there anything you'd recommend planting this late? Or should I simply not waste my time?

I would wait until we get some rain first, then before the next rain spread some cereal rye.

This is my plan. I hope we get what's forecast for tomorrow and then plant ahead of rain forecast for next week. Of course, if it doesn't rain, I'm not planting

Just disc the leaves in and hope for the best. I'm going to plant mine Friday and hope for the rain to come.

waiting for this rain event next week and then I'm plowing the shucks out of some logging roads. Even if we don't get big lush fields like early planted fields will, the young tender growth is all the deer are after anyway. We'll get plenty of that with wheat and cereal rye all the way through January.

Plant it,,,, when the rains come it will come up... me and my brother wasted money a couple of times years ago for nothing replanting because of a draught,,,

Some years later we planted once and just waited for the rains because of real dry conditions,,, the rains came real late and our plots shot up like crazy,,, sure some birds will get a few seeds,,,

What are y'all planning on planting this late if we get any rain? I want to plant brassicas and turnips but I doubt they'll mature before the cold hits hard. What say y'all?

I'm gonna plant straight wheat if we get any rain before 1/1/17. I mean if it really rains, not a % chance, but a couple inches of rain in the ground.

I'll put out 200 lbs of seed to the acre to try and make up for the late start and hit it with Nitrogen if the soil temp is still warm enough.

Don't waste your time or money. I planted some oct 15 and have watered them. They are gone not dead but eaten before they ever got started good. Wheat and rye is going in tomorrow in my plots I couldn't water.

I went up and planted my plots today, same tractor and disc that did a nice job last year looked like it was trying to cut up a concrete parking lot. I just told him to double/triple cut it some and started throwing the seed and fertilizer out there in the dust.

Over seeded mine yesterday to make up for what the dang turkeys have been feasting on. About to head out now and scatter a bag of wheat across a 6 month old clear cut. If it doesn't rain I figure I can at least shoot crows in the clear cut.

What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

I bet it won't rain around Clayton for at least 2 weeks. This is the first year the Dixons haven't planted trees in 25 years. It's straight powder until 7ft down.

I saw two different trucks heading into Lowndes co. hauling seed and fertilizer yesterday. Somebody decided to wait and plant.

I'm going to go top sow my field today. I already planted about a month ago, and think the seed is still fine as I haven't seen any sign of turkeys but I want to make sure. Yeah, I want my little boys to be able to hunt over the field but more importantly is I want to give the deer a food source. They are struggling this year due to the drought.

central ala,
I wanted to buy a ton of wheat. The few places I called yesterday didn't have anything. Seed may be hard to come by now if you don't already have it.
