I am going to build yet another AR style rifle. I already have a stripped lower and a few misc parts laying around. I have a .223 and a 300BLK so those are out. I am looking to build something else and don't really know what to build. I reload so that's not going to be issue for me.

I have been looking at 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, 7.62 x 39 and 450 Bushmaster to name a few. So I thought I would ask for wisdom from all mighty Aldeer to get some insight.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Imwould build a 9mm, just because you can shoot them on the cheap.

I'm in the same boat I've got it narrowed down to 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC

I had a 6.8SPC for awhile. It's very interesting to me due to the fact that it's .270 bullet. I liked the fact that I could shoot the same Hornady 120gr. SST in an AR platfrom, but with much less FPS.

To each his own though...especially if you reload.

A mans got to know his limitations.

I had the same dilemma a couple years ago after I built .223 and 300 BLK. I went with 6.8 due to the .277 caliber bullets. Load 95 gr Barnes TTSX and 120 gr Hornady SST. Factory ammo is easy to find now though in case you don't reload.

I have a grendel right now and really like it. But I LOVE the 450 bushmaster. Ammo is way more expensive even if you reload but it is a really cool round with a ton of punch. My 16" upper shot like a laser out to 225yds. After that you start getting some drop. If you do more long range shooting, a grendel with a 20-24 inch barrel would be better.

Choices choices. I hear what your saying valley dawg about range. I'm going to use the 308 I got from your for range.

I just want a gun gun to shoot and something different. I am worried about the Grendel getting phased out, the 6.8 will reach out a bit.

I have a 6.8 that I really like. S&B FMJ ammo has gotten cheap enough to buy in bulk and use the brass to reload. I haven't shot it suppressed yet. I'm interested to see how it sounds vs. 5.56.
