It does not go through the reservation at all. You guys need to familiarize yourself with federal regulations regarding historic sites before you form an opinion on this one. The real issue at hand is did the US Army Corps of Engineers, the lead federal agency in this case regarding Section 106 of the National Historic Presevation Act, follow the appropriate protocol and regulations. Additionally, did the tribe respond in an appropriate manner as their opportunities were afforded to them during the process?

Everything I see is that it would be disturbing burial grounds.

Each tribe that has historical claims to an area is given the opportunity to object, comment, or "sign off" on projects that have a federal nexus and therefore goes through the Section 106 process. They were given several opportunities. Also note that an Archaeological study was performed on the entire corridor and some sections of the proposed pipeline were re-routed to avoid some identified historical sites.

Pipelines don't hurt anything. Don't you remember all the BS about the pipeline in Alaska and the Carabou stayed around it because it gave off heat. More liberal bs ! Yeah - cahaba management area didn't get hurt this year at all. I'm not anit-pipeline, I'm anti-no pipeline maintenance.

The issue in Alabama was not because of lack of maintenance. Colonial actually performs PM style maintenance better than any other company I've done business with. And I've dealt with many Fortune 500 companies over the year.

Josh - you left out what it was while you were busy telling us what it was not. Most likely due to the mining in the area in recent years. (Blasting, vibration, etc.) Those pipes are laid in a bedded trench, sealed with a coating and have anode beds, every so many feet.. if you were to bury a piece of 1 cubic foot of stainless steel next to the pipe, or in close proximity it would not last 1 year. The design of the system uses the anode beds to draw corrosion away from the pipe. Colonial took full responsibility of the spill and if you will go back and read the Caaba River Society is pleased with both the response and cleanup procedures they put in place. Very few times do you hear of an incident like this Geno. However if it was all shipped by rail or tanker truck how many times do you think an incident would occur?

We cant even build a hay barn or grain bin within so many feet of a known cultural resourse site:..no way in heck they'd be allowed to go THRU a burial ground. Smh
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I will say it again since you obviously missed it when I said it the first time - I am not anti pipeline. Pipelines are far and away the best way to transport fuel and other petroleum products. I am however very upset when one breaks - whether you like me being upset or not and whether or not the response is as good as it can be.

Maintenance had nothing to do with the break. Wouldn't maintenance be the absolute entirety of it? I am by no means faulting the company but if you knew there was an increased in seismic activity due to mining or whatever in a given area wouldn't that translate to a shorter lifespan?

Could we do better? Maybe. But trains with hazardous chemicals derail and have spills every day, you just don't hear about them. Even with 5 spills this year from pipelines, it's still head and shoulders above every other transportation method. I do agree with that.

And I still say the indians shouldn't give one damn inch.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
