Ive done it a bunch and had a lot of fun and my friends and I killed some good uns. When I was younger..(under 50) I loved it. After that...the back doesnt like those LOONNGG drives so much.
Be careful and know that the locals generally know EXACTLY when youre in town. They WILL be on your land line but there arent many trees in some travelling states, so you might be on theres too. My friends will tell you I usually dont..and set up over 150 yrds from the line...just so I dont get tempted with my muzzleoader...50 yrds away during bow.
Temptation..is an evil thing...so I set up to not have to BE tempted..LOL!
Just go have fun..there 2 yr olds are the size of our 3 yr olds...and there 3 yr olds are big..anything over that age and youll be seeing PY for sure.
Great time..deer arent as catious or igh strung as here.
Good luck..BTW..do it with a friend or two...split the gas, the cost of stays while there, camp when its warmer or if you have a camper set er up!
Heck Ive stayed in tents in Illinois until the gun season started before at a state campground/archery only area right across from and bordering a Out of state Lease. Hot showers, bathroom and electric for $40 a week...I was all over it.
Go find a good spot and have a lot of fun with you friends or family!

I've leased land in a number of midwestern and western states. Some were/are for Personal use and others were/are for outfitting purposes.
What states are you thinking about?

What states are you thinking about? It's still way up in the air. I've thought like Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio, maybe Iowa and Nebraska. Those two are just a lot further

Kentucky would be fun and not so long of a drive. I actually looked at lease prices there last week.
The secret to a long marriage is to keep on dating, just as you did before marriage. We have "date night" once a week. Hers is Saturday, mine is Thursday.
The only time a married woman gives those is if your not married to them!

Yup. I'm in central Bama. I want to get top land here. But land prices here is absolutely insane for deer that are next to impossible to hunt and kill. Like one above said I'd be fine with fewer days up there and having the opportunity to see some real big deer. I was really thinking a lot on Kentucky also. Closer than most of those I mentioned and I think it's overlooked a decent bit. A good friend of mine I talked to about this said if you can kill a good deer here you can kill any out there. So if that's true or not I have no clue. Never hunted out of Bama. Don't do it, it will ruin you.
If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

A lot of land owners up that way will lease their land In split seasons...In other words they will lease to a group during the bow season, then turn around and re lease it to you or another group for the gun season...Personally I wouldn't lease a property unless it was for both...we ran into a lot of that in Illinois...most landowners we spoke with that done that wanted upwards of 40 dollars an acre... Good luck on your search....

Everybody wants to lease land these days. People are overlooking good public land because of it. I've had and still do have a few leases out of state only because I lived there or it's with family. Never really harvested a "big" buck off of any of them.
Got three 130+ bucks public land va and one of them was 142
I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

basecampleasing.com is a good one, also....Hunting lease network will email you lease property as it comes available, it will normally have areal photo's, prices, and max number of hunters allowed on those particular properties, there are several out there...Whitetail properties does also...

Agreed- if getting KS/TX was easier, I would make my season out there. I enjoy it too much to just sit around Alabama, and I do enjoy the camaraderie of our club. Will just have to make a trip west every few years and be happy with that. And it WILL spoil you out there.

I hunt 10min from my house on the corner of my small cattle farm. I killed 2 good bucks there last year but it's more of a retreat for me than anything. I've been itching to get into something in KY. 2 kids under 3 limits my time as it is but a few 3-4 day weekends out of state wouldn't be too bad. Especially if I got mama to tag along.

I hunt a whole week counting two weekends every year in Indiana. The wife visits family with our two under the age of 3 and I get to hunt on her great uncles farms, so its a win win for me. I rather hunt up there any time vs here. Like said before you can see more deer in a week up there than you can see down here in a couple seasons. Good luck on finding somewhere.
It's not how many days you hunt, it's how you hunt each day, that determines the success.
