I use a crossbow because I can no longer pull and hold a compound. I did use a compound for over 30 years and only got 3 opportunities to shoot at deer. I now have rheumatoid arthritis and it hurts bad enough just trying to get up a tree. I'm going to shoot whatever is legal. Call me lazy, unskilled, or whatever you want. I have killed a couple a year with the crossbow the last few years.

Ahhh, the yearly chest thumping "real bow hunters" don't use xbows, thread.

Never used one but I don't care how anyone else chooses to hunt and won't look down my nose at anyone that uses a xbow to kill one.

My thoughts too. Although, I have stood on the other side of this looked down on folks that used them. If it's legal and gets people out in the woods, then I'm all for it.
Not everyone has to be "The Greatest Whitetail Woodsman of the South"! Go hunt and get off the couch, quit running errands, mowing the dust, or whatever else you do in this go fast world and get out to enjoy life for a minute.

Bill feel free to bite me. It takes no skill to sit with a cocked crossbow and shoot a deer. while I shoot a compound I have respect for every archer and guys that can't shoot a bow due to age or injury. Most of tgem would choose a bow if they could. It has nothing to do with beating my chest. please refer to thge first line of this comment.

Im not trying to impress anyone with bow shooting skills. I like shooting a crossbow because Im much more efficient with it. I like to shoot a doe or two during bow season and Im not worried about anything other than putting an arrow in the right spot so I can get my meat without the added adventure of fishing it out of the local swamp or something.

I use one cause I'd much rather hunt on the ground and slip around than sit in a tree. I don't think I could ever draw a bow back sitting in a gobbler lounger.

I've asked this before and got sarcastic answers, such as "the same question could be asked by recurve users to compound users." But that's actually not true, with either a recurve or compound, the process, moves/action, and skillset is still the same. However, a crossbow is more like a gun than a bow. It's basically like a short-range gun that's more difficult to cycle a bullet.

Don't want this to turn into "why do you use sights instead of instinctive" or other ridiculous comparisons. It's just to me, a crossbow is more similar to a gun than it is a bow.

I like hunting - bow, rifle, shotgun, handgun, crossbow, whatever. Enjoy them all. Ground, trees, blinds. They all kill deer and are fun to hunt with.

Claims Rep- My sentiments exactly. I've never shot a crossbow but I just might get one some day. I'm getting old and don't do much climbing any more, but even if I did, I still don't see the problem. Shoot what you want!

Because I thought they were cool and wanted to ease into "bow" hunting. I also do not currently have a setup that allows me to practice with a bow. I can sight in and pretty much be done aside from periodic checks.

I really want to use a bow though, and hope to head that way soon. I have a lot of respect for a true bow kill, and would not regard any crossbow kill of mine as evidence of some sort of grand accomplishment. If me killing a doe every few years with a crossbow upsets people, oh well

I'm with Claims. Everybody do what they want. Stay within the law. There's a recurve, compound and a crossbow in my closet.

This. I don't have a crossbow, but have really thought about it this year. I'm now lined up for shoulder surgery next Thursday. This is the first summer since I started hunting that I cannot draw a bow. Even my daughters set at 45#.

I hunted with a compound for years in fact i still have my jennings i have had for years. Due to nagging shoulder injury. I have got to a point I can not hold draw. That is why I went to the cross bow
