I don't 100% agree with it, but I certainly see the argument for what Perry did in Texas. If they live in Tx because their parents brought them here, then the federal government has basically MANDATED that we provide services to them. The Fed is NOT going to make them go back home. So I can certainly understand why Texans would say, "hey, if they are going through the process of becoming a citizen legally, then why not grant them in state tuition so that they will at least be EDUCATED citizens rather than social services freeloaders for their whole life. We're stuck with them either way, so which one would we rather be stuck with."
Personally, I've been disappointed in the way the Perry campaign has defended this. I think it could have been handled much better than it has. The only problem with this is the fact that even in school they are freeloaders. Here in Calimexico it's almost business like for them to register for classes, get student assistance then drop out and they keep the money. The school I'm in right now has lost private student loans from Sally Mae and Wells Fargo because of it's high dropout rate. It hurts the Physician Assistant program because we can't work during school so private loans are what a lot of student in my class live on for the 2 yrs. If it were me, don't give them anything the 1st year, if they keep good grades then give them the assistance. Do it across the board to all incoming freshman that have not won scholarships based on academic performance, these people have proven their desire to succeed.
Finally deported myself from the peoples republik of Kaliforkistan.

It's not just the education system. They are draining health care, increasing insurance rates, and abusing food stamps and other government give aways. ie. they have to show NO id. to get food stamps. What's to stop them from applying for them in multiple counties? It chaps my _____ to see them in front of me at walmart with 3 buggies loaded with mostly name brands and more meat than my family can eat in a month. Meanwhile, I'm back there trying to decide if I need to put something back because I'm not sure if I have enough cash! Oh well, thats another thread for another time. Thanks for listening to my venting. John This is precisely the reason that any type of reform (social security, healthcare, etc) will be unsuccessful until the issue of immigration reform is pursued seriously. If I were president, I would veto any and all legislation that didn't deal with immigration until there was a handle on it. I probably wouldn't get the hispanic vote.

Should people in this country illegally or without proper visas be allowed to attend public school (elementary, mdl, high) or public universities or colleges?
What say ye? Hell No!!

In line with some of our other blurbs, "As a christian what would Jesus do with them?" He would not give them fish (government support, in this instance education), he would teach them how to fish (i.e. learn how to be self sufficient in educating their own children not at others expense).
