Steyr, Remington or used Sako which has already been mentioned.

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts,hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Buy gun on type hunting you plan on doing. You don't need a long range cannon to carry up a tree if you plan on hunting 100 yards or less. You may need one if you are hunting 300 yards sitting in a hut or watching a powerline. Lot of variables to consider to get more out of that scope than just .308 caliber.

Tikka T3.... it is a Sako, has the same barrel straight off the same assembly line, and the action is like butter.

Why buy a used Sako when you can get a new one.As already mentioned they are called Tikka T3.I like mine more than any rifle I have ever owned.It don't look much like a Tikka anymore since I have done a little customizing but it's still the same tack driver at heart.It is the only rifle I have ever owned that I could just go to walmart and tell the girl at the counter to give me a box of 30-06 shells and not have to worry about what brand she gave me.It will shoot anything accurately.Some better than others but so far everything I have put through the barrel has been good enough to drill a deer at long range.

Consider a breach break ...
Its a single shot , con to some.
Pro;
Same barrel length but shorter overall gun length.
More accurate than a bolt action.
Less expensive.
Easy to handle in confined space.
Btw .308 is a great round for most of our circumstances.

Good huntin..

Weatherby S2 Vanguard or Howa 1500 in stainless. Both will be sub 1" rifles, most likely. Savage is a solid choice, too. Lots of good rifles in your price range. Personally, I'd steer clear of Remington but all the others mentioned are good choices, in my opinion.

Howa 1500. 1 MOA out of the box.

Ok, I'll agree that's debatable, it would certainly depend on the quality of the gun. However a breach load will hold the round tighter with less play in the chamber. I could see if there is play at the break that might effect accuracy.
