I'm gonna shoot 2 does on my private property, process them myself, and put them in the freezer to eat. I don't need a phone for any of that.

Interesting. When I downloaded the Alabama and Georgia 'ranger' apps it didn't ask for all this.

I think it asked for GPS or Location access but many apps do. I declined. Anything that would ask for bluetooth connection info, camera, device id or other stuff like that, I'd probably delete the app.

I think we need a BassCheck for all bass tournaments of 10 boats or more on public waters. Mandatory check-in by the tourney director of all fish brought to the scales, total weight, big fish, time/date of tourney. Would be a heck of a lot of data, and more than the voluntary BAIT reports.

I assure you I have no way of tracking you down by way of this app...I'm so good at that I don't need a dang app's help anyways! thumbup

You can do this with out the app

From what I’m hearing…they’re going to be able to take the location data from the app and load it directly into the DCNR drones. grin

This is pure speculation and I'm thinking out loud here. I am not an IT computer guy, so this is just a guess. The app is really nothing more than a shortcut to the full website operated by the department. The last time I checked the website they had some sections called "Places to Hunt" and "Places to Fish". If they made that section interactive, they could bring up a map that shows those places in relation to your location, but the program would need to access your GPS feature to do that. I also vaguely recall a page on the website encouraging folks to submit photos of unidentified fish for ID help. Maybe a shortcut to this page is included in the app. To make posting pics easier, it would likely need access to your phone's camera. These are just a few of the perfectly innocent reasons I can think of that the app would need access to those phone features. Of course, if you're inclined to believe in conspiracies, you won't share the same opinion.

Even if big brother is collecting this data, what in the cornbread hell do you think they'd do with it? It seems to me that some of the same people who believe the DCNR is too stupid to manage deer, are now suggesting they are super sleuths trying to mine data on your every move for the eventual implementation of their master plan.

There's only one possible explanation. They DO intend to use that info. The complexity of this stuff is over everyone's head.

I wonder if they will sell the data? Is there a user agreement that tells yo one way or the other?

I haven't tried the download, but I can guarantee you someone will pay good money for that data. After all, data is king right? The DCNR even says so.

It's a moot point to me since my license doesn't have 10 digits. I'm just gonna call the director and tell him when I kill something.

i looked a little more at what it can do .

device & app history > retrieve running apps

contacts > read your contacts

location > approximate (network based) location and precise (gps) location

SMS > send SMS messages

phone > directly call phone numbers

photo/media > test access to protected storage and modify or delete the contents of you usb storage

camera > take pictures and video

blue tooth connection info > access blue tooth settings

device id and call info > read phone status and identity

other
run at start up
send sticky broadcast
prevent phone from sleeping
view network connections
read google service configuration
pair with blue tooth devices
full network access
control vibration
