We are getting to damn old to walk down the sides of the roads with blades/pruners. Anyone know of good tractor implements that can be purchased?

I'm gonna make a hydraulic driven chainsaw to mount on my tractor bucket. It'll be pricey but I'm gonna do it.

Keep me updated as to how it works. I have seen a few pieces (Samurai cutter) that look interesting, but nothing that seems to fit the bill.

Why not spray them like the highway department and power company do? I made a simple rack that slides into my ATV receiver and holds a boomless spray nozzle that sprays 16' wide. The purpose of the rack is to allow me to position the nozzle based on where I want to spray. I can spray either side or directly behind me with a quick move of the nozzle. All of this connects to a standard spot sprayer from TSC.

I know the feeling! I just hired a man last week with a 150 horse John Deer tractor with a side mounted bush hog to cut my roads.

My son and I can't keep up with over 5 miles of roads on my place. He cut the roads from the ground to 13 feet high. He told us to spray the roads every spring and we could get buy for several years before needing to cut again.

PM me if you have a club near Selma. I will give you his number.

I've found the samurai cutter online. It looks interesting, but not sure of the durability of it.

Rent a dozier and push them out to around 20 t0 25 feet wide. That's what I have planned.

It be's that way sometimes.

This was my thoughts as well. Just burn it back from the roads.

Thats the only good thing about being the tractor man on a lease. Yeah I put in more hours than every one else but at least I do it sitting on my ass and not on my feet carrying a pair of limb loppers.

They make 3 point cutters to cut the sides and limbs similar to what you see the state using but they are going to require tractors of over 7500# and a minimum of 80hp and they are no where near being cheap.

We have looked into one of these this guy builds and sells on craigslist for $1500 for road trimming.

The great thing about a regular bushhog is the operator is shielded by flying debris for the most part by the implement itself. Having that sucker mounted in front of you on a bucket looks like bad things waiting to happen. The side cutters 257 referenced have the cutter directly to the side where the operator is still shielded for the most part. I'd like to see that thing in action before I committed to buying one.

Me and a good friend almost started a company with a side mounted cutter and cater specially to trimming roads for hunting clubs catfish farmers and private landowners. But then we both got in the line of work were in now.

There is someone who has one doing just that and their cost is very high. Its comparable to hiring one of the foresty mulchers to come clear land.

Cheapest decent used tractor with a Alamo side cutter like the state and municipalities use I have found was about $30k and it was in rough shape.
There are some of the older ford skip loader industrial tractors that pop up with them every now and then, but they are going to be 1975-85 models and well past their prime in the $12-15k range.

With just 5 miles of roads as mentioned above Id buy a 3 pt sprayer and poison and go to spraying. or rent a D3 for about $1250 for a week and knock the sides back.

Research it first before ya do. A circular saw blade type is much better than a chain type. They dont bind or get pinched like a chain does, and no oiler required.
The "giraffe" type cutters the state has that has the long boom arm used to be chain saw types. Now they have went to the circular blade type for that reason.

Also, the booms develop stress cracks due to the intense torque.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...
