I just bought a Honda Pioneer 1000 and like an idiot I did not get an insurance quote before I bought because all my other ATV's have been very cheap. Well they quoted me over 300 a month and I'm needing some options. Anyone else have this problem? I have a clean record, not sure why its so outrageous..

Any chance that the person giving the quote may have entered something wrong? Perhaps $300 a year and not a month? I'd definitely be calling a few places to get some more quotes.

Not sure Brandon issues policies out of Alabama....looks like YamG3 is in Mississippi.

That's about right.

You basically buy insurance like a car. Comprehensive or liability and collision.

I was only worried about 1.theft 2.getting totaled while towing. Collision was not a concern.

Well, #2 is covered by the car insurance of whoever hits me (assuming they have some).

So, #1 was it. After shopping it, it was about as cheap to go comprehensive. I think I ended up around $260. Seemed outrageous to me at the time, but I've gotten over it.

American adventure. I paid around $300 a year. if I rolled it down the side of a mountain, it was covered.

Call Progressive. Insurance on my Honda 350 rancher is $100/year. I can't believe a UTV would be that much more expensive.

$3600/year?? Surely that's a mistake. That's more expensive than my wife's brand new Explorer.

Someone misquoted it or the OP meant $300/annually, which isn't a terrble rate. $300/month simply can't be correct.

I second calling Progressive. They have a fantastic ATV/UTV policy.

I just bought insurance through Progressive last week for my 2013 RZR 900xp. Full coverage insurance on it would have been $215 per year for me. I'm 42....clean record. No wrecks. I added my son's 2014 RZR 800s to the policy. I didn't get collision on it as it is paid for. $315 for both RZR's per year.

That included $3000 for any accessories. Most other places I called only covered $1000 in accessories.

That can't be right. I just did an online quote (loaded) with Geico and it came out to $276/year

may depend on the company. state farm agent told me that they (state farm) re-classified utv's from golf cart class to dune buggy/rail class in the last year.

experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

I have state farm for vehicles and home owners insurance. I have Progressive on my boat and Polaris ranger , full coverage was much less than State Farm's quote. Worth checking out. IMO

Yeah that's a mistake. Should be more like 300-400 a year. I'm an agent in Florida and I use Progressive for UTVs and other toys. Check around.

How about just don't purchase the insurance & take on the [hopefully minimal] risks, keeping the premiums in return? basically self-insure the UTV...

I have an Ez-go Golf Cart that I bought neww in 2008. Right after I bought it I was cutting down some beetle killed pines and almost dropped dropped a big pine right on my brand new cart. I went straight to the house and called my allstate agent to insure the cart. It costs $75/yr. for full coverage
