We only use ours on cool nights when we don't need the a/c running. We open a few windows and it sucks cool air through the house and it's nice. I would think running it with the a/c in it would just suck the a/c out. You're referring to a different system (at least I think so). He just wants a way to expel hot air from the attic, without any real connection to inside the house. Your system is more like what they had in the old days before AC, and probably moves a lot more air.
