Nobody makes anybody hunt. You can go or not go. I don't mind having the option. That's a boring time of the year otherwise.

Seeing that other thread on how long the deer season is made me realize: Some of y'all won't be happy till they shut this whole deer hunting thing off. Make it a lottery, give out a few hundred tags and make rifle hunting short or non-existent. It just makes me scratch my head.
I don't have a super-high deer population, but dang y'all just need to be happy we can hunt all winter. Some folks get to do it one week per year. We can't all take off work for 10 days straight and hunt the rut, heck I don't even know exactly when my rut is.
Deer hunting is so much more than antlers. It's getting together in the fall and winter and watching football and grilling out after an afternoon hunt. It's getting kids excited about being with their fathers in the woods. And most of all it's about enjoying God's blessings he has blessed us with, even if it's a cow horn spike.
All I ask is that y'all keep the big picture in mind. I'll probably never kill a 160 inch deer and I'm OK with that. Too bad more people don't see it this way, sure wish they did.

I understand your point, but I'll offer a counter point: "some of y'all won't be happy till the season is open year round". I obviously say that tounge in cheek, but it think there is a percentage of hunters that would not be satisfied with a 9 month, or even 12 month season. If we cut 10 days off a 9 month season, they would scream "there's already a yearly limit - don't nobody make you go hunting!" Keep the 9 month season!!. Nevermind that a 9 month season would allow EVERYone to get their precious 3 bucks and couple-freezers-o-does.
Forgive my frustration, but threre'sonly so much the land can give, and a very small percentage of people can exhibit both knowledge of what that limit is, and self control.

I think we all know the state has zero basis to do this by. But I think we'll all make the best of it.

I hear ya, and I don't want folks to kill too many either, but put a dang limit on does if that's your goal. Season length and one doe a day is probably excessive on every property. And 2Dogs, if you want to talk biology, it was the biologists that did and some still do, telling us to kill "every doe you see", and that mentality has gotten us to this point more than any season length ever did.

So now we get more days to shoot does that don't need to be shot. Still no sound biology in sight.

Sounds like we aren't too far off each other. I could get behind a per-person doe limit (assuming more region specific than state wide), or either more limited doe days.

So let me get this straight: you trust the state to use the almighty game check to make the right decisions on herd biology. The same state you're saying gives us way too many days to shoot way too many does.
I just don't trust the whole bureaucracy and special interests involved. If that's at me, hell no. I don't trust them either, not any more. Lost the love for Chuck and anything he serves up, and that includes the dumb ass season extension. It appears they're a ship without a rudder.
