Got to do some recon in a big river bottom today. Thought I'd share some pics - probably a lot of folks never seen woods like this in AL. And the pics don't really do it justice.

Its better to sit in a stand and think about God, then to sit in church and think about hunting.

Looks like a flood area. Good place to set up if you can squeeze a shot through.

We've got creek bottom like that on our place and it's a dang deer desert. There's just no cover.

I was fixing to say I've seen some of those same bottoms in the Demopolis/Livingston area.

Yep, on a side note it's easier for me to get lost on that flat ground than anywhere else. I always carry a compass since I wondered around a few hours one day.

Looks a lot like some woods I have been in around Flat Creek near Monroeville. Place was loaded with swamp chestnut white oaks, quite a bit larger than the trees in those pics. We had 4 or 5 trees that 5 grown men could not join together and reach around these trees.

Paging Joesixpack....seeing those pics makes me really miss hunting your place. Reminds me of a portion of our old farm in MS along the Big Black River.

As I mentioned, the pics don't do it justice. It's not so much the tree diameter at this location. It's hard to see depth, but a couple of those pics, I could see 150-200 yards. That was the most unique part, especially this time of year.

I agree about the deer desert comment earlier. However, there's plenty of cover on some adjoining stands of timber. The hog and turkey sign was off the chart.

I've seen a lot of places that looked like that. Especially, when I worked Monroe, Escambia, Clarke, Butler, and Wilcox counties. I've killed a pile of deer in places that look just like that. That's when you put the pirogue to work.

You must be looking in the wrong spot.
