If your going to own a newer diesel, a programmer is a must!! Its critical to keep a check on fuel pressure, egts and boost.
The 24 valves dodges have the same issue as the OP.. lift pump in tank quits, causing the injection pump to pull through it and prematurely wear it out. A set of guages would have exposed the fact of low fuel pressure, saving thousands in repairs.
Also, always buy fuel from a place that sells alot of it so its always fresh.
