Question for you ElkHunter.
If you were getting paid to trap hogs strictly on a per head basis ( let's say $20 per head), what percentage of land in Alabama would you be willing to trap on given the opportunity? My turn, What is the minimum size property you can hunt hogs with dogs and keep your dogs on that property?

Danny, if you live in a glass house, it is best not to throw rocks. I dang sure will throw them back.

You can't make it profitable and effective at $20 per hog unless you are trapping with crappy traps in your own back yard and cheating on your taxes. jwal, This was my answer.

I don't recall you answering my question to you. However, your question to me is a good one. There are quite a few variables involved. Some of them include which dogs I decide to take, how I pair the up the dogs I decide to turn loose, and of course the location of the hunt. In certain locations the hogs have the Eurasian influence ( believe it or not) and that certainly has to be taken into consideration. I am not asking for the average or something like that. Just what is the minimum acreage you think you could keep your dogs on?

Barry, for someone who does not want to be a jerk, and does not mean to argue......
You sure are and do! I started this thread asking a simple question about 3 states that are side by side and in the same ballpark size wise with VERY different estimates as to their feral hog population. That in NO WAY had any argument in it at all. It took you 1 post to interject your agenda. $$$$$$$ The FACT is many hunters (notice I did not say hog doggers) have caught moved and released hogs for their own benefit and enjoyment and then later complain because they can't get access to properties to hunt the hogs. Tough. Don't get ticked at me for it. (And I don't care what the statute of limitations is.)

Danny, if you live in a glass house, it is best not to throw rocks. I dang sure will throw them back. I have NO idea how I let you sucker me back into your childish games. But, your answer on the monetary aspect is proof positive of what I have always said.....this whole endeavor, including your inflammatory post, accusatory remarks and self-righteous attitude are all driven far more by personal greed and desire for financial gains than any desire to eradicate hogs......including your recent attack on Recreational Hunting. So, you just keep on being you and I will keep on enjoying my Hunting and being forced to fight for my Right to do so. And, fwiw, I have NO problem with access to hunting property. And, I do not rely on scams and fast talk to acquire, and keep, it. As a matter of fact, we both know that it was YOU who used to call ME looking for properties with hogs. And, I was gullible enough to lead you to some good ones. You're Welcome.

Expected? Yes.
I talk to a LOT of landowners/farmers that have had hog doggers work their properties for YEARS. Many say the same thing, "They turn the dogs out and that don't stop until they are XXX miles away". And many of these have farms over 1,000 acres in size.
SO, in theory you might be able to keep your dog ON 10 acres. That does not mean you could catch the hog on that 10 acres.

The two smallest I have trapped have been about 120 acres with me catching 29 in about 3 months and about 200 acres catching 34 in about 6 months.
But, to answer the question, I will trap a place as small as a half acre.

I answered the question as asked. So what is the minimun acreage you will agree to trap on? Yes you did. Thank you.

Maybe so, but he/she would just have to understand that I will do whatever I legally can do to protect my property.

You have never heard one of my clients express that about me. Many times I service their properties whether I have clients or not. At not charge. And I have not attacked recreational hunting. That is simply your perception. I did express an opinion on those that have caught and transported pigs and released them for personal benefit or gain. That was in no way an attack on Recreational Hunting. So, take your agenda elsewhere and leave me alone.
